For instance, Microsoft’s data center in Arizona is estimated to use 56 million gallons of water annually, posing a potential threat to local water supplies.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has projected that the state’s grid capacity will need to double in the next decade to accommodate the demands of AI and bitcoin mining. This has sparked a political debate about the sustainability of such industries, given their minimal job creation relative to their massive energy consumption.
