In this episode I’m joined by Kayleigh Kozak. She’s a child s*x abuse survivor with a very powerful story. She’s now a wife and a mother of five children, and she’s consistently fighting for their future.
In February of 2020, thirteen years after her case had been closed, Kayleigh found herself facing the man who had s*xually abused her as a young teenager in court once again. Under the existing laws of Arizona, Kayleigh learned that her protection would cease to exist once her perpetrator’s probation ended, leaving her vulnerable. Determined to fight against this injustice, she appealed against his motion for early termination from his lifetime probation. Collaborating with her local legislators, Kayleigh worked tirelessly to draft a bill and establish a new law that would grant victims and survivors of sexual and domestic abuse continued protection for their entire lives, regardless of their abuser’s probation status.
