The Practical Catholic

PC30.2 Fr. John Sollee Pt.2

Fr. John Sollee joins the guys to discuss what it has been like in his first year as a priest. This two part episode covers topics ranging from confession, discernment, Fr. John's story, and some deep discussion on The Office. Check it out.

Newly ordained Father John Sollee continues the Theology on Tap Series: Diving Deep with the Saints sharing his experiences with St. Phillip Neri. St. Phillip Neri spent his life in Rome in a time when the culture was very anti-Church. He worked to reform the Church and the people's hearts through simple means and a joyful disposition. Fr. John shares a bit about the life of the saint along with what impact Saint Phillip has had on his own life.

This month for Theology on Tap we had Seminarian Chris Knight kick off the summer series on the saints focusing on the topic of prayer. Chris walks us through different forms of prayer, what the saints have to teach us about prayer, and what we can do to grow in holiness through our prayer. Check it out.

PART 2 OF 2: This two part episode discusses the document produced by the Vatican that will be the "driving document" for the 2018 Synod on the Youth and Discernment. This document (found here) is a combination of input from youths and young adults from around the world. This document along with others will give direction to the Synod scheduled for Summer of 2018. In this episode the guys dissect the document and give their own insights on what the Young Adults of Jacksonville and N Florida are striving for and what areas we need help from the Church in.

Halfway through Lent. How is your lenten fast going? Are you fasting? Do you know the difference between fasting and abstaining. The guys continue the Hot Topics series by delving into the widely talked about and widely known practice of fasting. Tune in for some surprising facts, some bad jokes, some tips of how to make the most of your fasting, and much much more.

Starting our Hot Topics series, the guys talk about drinking. Of course while drinking. Jonathan joins in to try new beer, discuss drinking in the Catholic world, why other denominations maybe choose not to drink, and what the Church teaches about temperance and moderation.

WELCOME TO SEASON 2: The Practical Catholic is back after a hiatus for Season 2, new and improved. This week we discuss the start of Ordinary Time, how it shouldn't just be a waiting period for Lent, and how the season calls us to be saints in our ordinary lives. Then we discuss a not so ordinary saint: Saint Joseph. Join Connor, Kevin, and Chris in the Season 2 premiere. Thanks for your continued support.

SPECIAL GUEST: This episode, The Practical Catholic sat down with Bishop Felipe Estevez of the Diocese of St. Augustine to discuss his recent stewardship letter: One Faith, One Family. Many of us think of stewardship in terms of the "three T's": time, talent, and treasure. Bishop Estevez calls us to move beyond this simple calling and make stewardship a central part of our faith by journeying with those God has placed in our lives.
