This episode is going to talk about the "Miracle of Compound Interest".
Financial advisors constantly use compounding interest calculators to project and predict future values for their clients. The problem with that is that stocks, bonds, and mutual funds don't compound interest. In fact, no investment does. Stocks don't compound interest. They appreciate and they depreciate in value. That's not the same as compounding interest.
Understanding this truth also sort of demolishes the entire use of the phrase, "the miracle of compound interest" (supposedly by Einstein), as it relates to investments. It's simply not applicable. Compound interest calculators, therefore, are generally used as a marketing tool to sell investments. They are not real predictors of what is going to happen and are generally a bad way to choose an investment. Calculations and projections are not a good substitute for real knowledge about an investment.

Sue and Craig are owners of Richey Property Management, a residential property management firm in the Northern Virginia area which is just outside of Washington DC. Sue is the Broker of the company and has been in the real estate industry since 1997 and Craig is the COO. They both started in the real estate business selling homes and were successful Realtors. When they started buying investment properties in the early 2000s, they knew they were hooked and over the years have bought and sold many rental properties.
In 2006, they started Richey Property Management and as the market was headed for a downturn, the property management business began to grow as people weren't buying and selling but still needed a place to live so people were still renting. Since then they have grown the property management business to today currently managing around 700 single-family homes. They are active investors as well and own several investment properties of their own.
In the business, Sue's focus is on sales and marketing while Craig really manages many of the financial aspects and legal and compliance. They have built a great team over the years, and together they work hard to create the best experience possible for their clients.
Both Sue and Craig are passionate about travel and have traveled all over the world. They have three children who are grown now and their son also works with them in the business.
