This week on The Produce Stand, we begin our coverage of the second Don Cherry miniseries, The Wrath of Grapes. After giving Keep Your Head Up, Kid a TPS Unicorn, we turn our attention to the next chapter in Grapes’ story.
The story rewinds to Don’s departure from the Boston Bruins before following him to his ill-fated season coaching the Colorado Rockies. We discuss his decision to honour his handshake deal with Colorado despite a richer offer from Harold Ballard and the Toronto Maple Leafs, his clashes with Rockies management, and the stubborn principles that ultimately helped end his NHL coaching career.
Along the way, the movie flashes back to Don’s formative years, giving us a look at his relationship with his father and the experiences that shaped his views on loyalty, hard work and standing up for others. And for Letterkenny fans, there’s a familiar face playing teenage Don: Tyler Johnston, better known around these parts as Stewart.
We also discuss the movie’s recasting, Rose’s new role as narrator, Don’s tumultuous year in Colorado, and whether this sequel works as a continuation or as its own standalone story.

This week on The Produce Stand, we wrap up our coverage of Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story, finishing Part 2 of the Jared Keeso-led Don Cherry miniseries.
We pick up with the Cherry family facing one of their toughest moments as Tim battles kidney failure and Cindy steps up to donate a kidney to her brother. The support of Don’s Bruins players provides one of the episode’s most emotional moments before the story shifts back to hockey and Don’s increasingly strained relationship with Boston management.
Then it’s on to the infamous 1979 Bruins-Canadiens Game 7, complete with Don’s iconic bow to the Montreal crowd, Guy Lafleur, Don Marcotte and the devastating too-many-men penalty that helped end Boston’s Stanley Cup hopes.
From there, we follow Don out of Boston, through his brief Colorado Rockies stint and into the unexpected next chapter of his career: television. We watch the beginnings of the personality that would eventually make Coach’s Corner appointment viewing across Canada.
Finally, we give our overall thoughts, ratings and MVPs as we close the book on Keep Your Head Up, Kid and prepare for The Wrath of Grapes.

This week on The Produce Stand, we continue our offseason deep dive into Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story, tackling the first half of Part 2.
We pick up with Don Cherry beginning his coaching career in Rochester, where his hard-nosed philosophy quickly takes shape. After clashing with management and finding himself unemployed, Don gets another shot at Rochester, this time building an independent team from scratch around skill, toughness and players other teams overlooked. Sound familiar?
The parallels to Shoresy become impossible to ignore. From surrounding skilled players with the toughest guys available to locker-room speeches and an obsession with hating to lose, we find plenty of DNA that appears to have carried into Jared Keeso’s later work. There’s even a surprising connection when future Shoresy director Sean Skeen turns up as Battleship Kelly.
Don’s success eventually earns him the Boston Bruins job, where he inherits Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito and a talented team that isn’t quite playing his kind of hockey.
We also discuss Jared Keeso’s performance, Rose Cherry’s influence and the beginnings of the larger-than-life Don Cherry Canadians would eventually know from Coach’s Corner.

This week on The Produce Stand, we take a break from our Don Cherry coverage because there is simply too much happening in the YEWniverse.
Joining Al, Tanya and Victor are TPS Degens Kassie, Jeff, Mike and Tobias, who can now add “published author” to their résumés. They’re contributors to the newly released Get After It Then: Essays on the Themes and Charms of Letterkenny, edited by Tobias and featuring a foreword by Al.
We talk with Tobias about how the book came together before hearing from several contributors about their chapters, covering everything from hockey culture and women in the sport to growing up American with a love for Canada and the surprising depth hiding beneath Letterkenny’s dick and fart jokes.
But first, there’s some rather massive news: Letterkenny Live is returning! We break down the newly announced 2027 tour, the returning cast and what that tantalizing promise of “new material” might mean for the future of Letterkenny.
Plus, we discuss Tim Cherry’s revealing interview about why Jared Keeso almost didn’t get to play Don Cherry.
It’s a celebration of Letterkenny, its fans and the community that somehow turned a TV show about a small Ontario town into a published book.

This week on The Produce Stand, Al, Tanya, Mat and Victor finish their recap and review of Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story – Part One.
We pick up with Don Cherry at the end of his playing career and follow him through one of the lowest periods of his life, including construction work, a spectacularly ill-suited attempt at selling cars, and eventually his discovery that coaching might be the next best thing to playing hockey. Along the way, the gang discusses Cherry’s famously stubborn personality, the evolution of hockey equipment and how surprisingly modern hockey history really is.
A major focus is Jared Keeso’s performance as Don Cherry, with the panel marveling at how completely Keeso disappears into the role. We wrap up the movie with our traditional Fresh, Clearance or Compost ratings and MVPs.
Then it’s a surprisingly huge news week in the YEWniverse. Jared Keeso has another new series in development, Cats in the Plateau, a six-episode comedy about two Montreal garbage men who decide to start a gang.
Plus, we get a release date for Get After It Then: Essays on the Themes and Charms of Letterkenny, featuring contributions from several TPS Degens and a foreword by Al.

This week on The Produce Stand, Al, Tanya, Mat and Victor begin their long-requested coverage of Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story, the Canadian miniseries starring Jared Keeso as one of hockey’s most recognizable and controversial personalities.
We cover the first half of Part One, following Cherry from his stubborn, blue-collar childhood in Kingston through his years chasing an NHL career. Along the way, we meet Rose, witness Don’s brief shot with the Boston Bruins, and enter the wonderfully unhinged world of hockey legend Eddie Shore.
But this is TPS, so we’re also watching through a YEWniversal lens. The gang digs into the surprising number of connections between Cherry’s story and the characters, hockey culture and storytelling of Letterkenny and Shoresy. Is Don Cherry essentially part of Shoresy’s origin story? And did Keeso borrow more from this production than we realized?
We also discuss Keeso’s uncanny performance, the fantastic period production design, the origins of Rock ’Em Sock ’Em Hockey, old-school hockey insanity, and how Cherry went from struggling journeyman to captain of the Rochester Americans.
