On The Productivity Podcast. We're going to be creating a five-episode series for personal productivity. Things that individually in your life can either help you be more productive or things that are keeping you from being productive and how you can work through those and overcome them. Now we're going to go ahead and get started on how being “Busy” Kills Productivity.
At the end of the day do you look back and say “I was busy”, but then you look back and also think, but what did I get done? If so you're really not alone. People say “I'm so busy. I feel overwhelmed all the time.” “ I've got a lot going on, but there isn't enough time to get everything done”.
Does that sound familiar? We all hear the sort of thing all the time and Hey, we've probably said it ourselves, but contrary to what you may think, being busy doesn't mean you are productive. In fact, most of us can relate to times when it seems the busier we are the less we seem to get done sometimes not always.
Being busy has kind of become a badge of honor. I know in past employee situations before I became an entrepreneur, it was, you know, who stayed the latest at the meeting and who stayed the latest at work and who came in on Saturday. You know, were people really getting more done, or were they just looking like it or trying to look like it?
I'm not sure, but the truth is busy-ness makes you less productive. What is being busy? Well, one thing for sure, it's likely not being productive, effective, accurate, or as creative as you could be. The bottom line is it's not productivity. And in this episode, we're going to examine further the phenomenon and propose four reasons, possibly and methods to get out of the busy cycle and begin really getting things done.
In order to fix anything. We really need to identify what the issue is. So we need to identify what we do, what you do, what I do to be busy. This can be different for different people and for different reasons, we're going to cover four primary reasons why people stay busy and how they do that. And even though it's often subconsciously, it's not intentional, we're going to talk about what they are and how you might be able to work around those if they apply to you.
