Moses spoke to the earth. Deuteronomy 32:1 says, “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak, and let the earth hear the words of my mouth.” The earth responds to the voice of those who have been given dominion. Kings exercise their dominion primarily by speaking.

The earth is full of the glory of God. Isaiah 6:3 says, “And one called to another and said, “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.” The earth is not suffering from lack, but from sons realizing they are also kings.

Did you know you can ‘hear’ your thoughts? Even now as you are reading these words you are not just processing them through your mind but you are internally hearing yourself read them. You’re not just thinking your thoughts, you are hearing your thoughts. Those thoughts make up what is called our inner voice or internal dialogue.

Your thoughts are vital to your self-talk because what you think, you ‘listen’ to. And what you listen to, shapes your belief system, and what you believe manifests in your actions. The voice you listen to is the voice you will act on. There is a war over your thought life and the enemy works overtime to get you to ‘listen’ to his lies but he’s not the only voice speaking to us. God is speaking too.

Believers can position themselves to hear what God is speaking in the world around them through active listening. One of the ways that the Lord loves to speak through is in movies, songs (both Christian and marketplace) as well as any other creative medium that involves you listening, like audiobooks and podcasts.

For example, how many of you have been impacted by some of the dialogue in movies like Narnia or Lord of the Rings? Each of these parabolic stories were written by Christians but the stories aren’t strictly Christian. Now, what about other movies and songs that are not written by Christians? Can we hear God speak through them? Yes, if we have ears to hear what the Lord is choosing to speak through. It’s our responsibility to recognize His voice not judge the messenger it’s coming through.

God speaks through our external hearing receptors. He is speaking through the sounds we physically hear around us, whether they are in creation, people, and even the media. Learn to actively listen when something you hear ignites your spirit in a fresh or meaningful way as the Lord is trying getting your attention. Remember, you are hard-wired to hear His voice and He is not silent. Learn to listen. Lean in to His voice and you will hear Him in the world around you.

How do you access the realm of time where a day with the LORD is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day? Being teachable allows you to access in twenty minutes what might have taken another person twenty years. Teachability is a huge time bender.
