In this episode, we are diving into a topic that is very controversial. Is it a positive community or a cult, or a cult-like organization?
Here we address that every industry has its light and dark side and while I am mentioning different experiences in my life that made me question the community, I am in no way stating claims about companies, people that were there, or saying anything in absolutes. I am sharing my story and perspective of some situations I am grateful to no longer be a part of because of some "gut feeling".
In this episode, I start by discussing a situation that is going on in the dance community where accusations about a company are coming to light that it is a cult that brainwashes dancers, isolates them from friends and family, takes control of their lives, their accounts, and more. The members are denying any of the accusations, however, friends and family are being cut off and blocked abruptly. And it's not just moms, dads, siblings, and friends. It seems to be everyone. While I don't know the truth behind all of that and which side is being deceptive, I do recognize the possibility that the accusations are true.
What makes this even crazier and worth bringing up is that this film company is owned by a religious organization.
Again, whether or not this is all true, it is important that the possibility of these things and the manipulation, coercion, corruption, and more in groups. My main intent is to talk on the topic as I process my thoughts that are coming up about it, reflect on personal experiences, and really try to understand my role in the fitness industry. I see manipulation and deception going on in it and I don't want any part in that.
I have had my own experiences in life where I have wanted to be involved with groups that appeared to be fun and worth being a part of, then getting an "off" vibe, that later on proved to be "valid" after learning what was going on.
Part 2 will go over some thoughts about the fitness industry.
