We are head waayy back in time for this episode! In fact, Edmund Goulding's Grand Hotel is the oldest Best Picture Winner we've seen to this date! Time to travel back to the 16th century and visit ole' Will Shakespeare as he struggles to write his next masterpiece, Romeo and Juliet! The Back Log Boys have already hinted at their strong opinions about the Bard, but it's time for the disagreement to come into the fold. Will there be a mathematical outlier in our numerical calculations of placement? Or is it time for the Boys to agree completely? Find out all that and what film we're watching next week at the end of the episode!

After a bit of a New Year's hiatus (Timo moved) the Back Log Boys are back in the swing of watching Best Picture winners! This week they try to tackle what they could only describe as avant-garde: John Schlesinger's New York drama, Midnight Cowboy. The film is certainly well regarded, but where will it end up on the list? Can it crack the increasingly elusive front side of the list (aka top ten for all you uneducated)? Make sure to stick around until the end because it seems next week is gonna be "a discussion and a half."

We've got a special guest again! Gabe joins the rest of the Back Log Boys (minus Tanner) to figure out what the deal is with Bernardo Bertolucci's film The Last Emperor. Everyone agrees this experience is a treat for the eyes and ears, but is it a snack for the brain too? We're going to figure that out somehow before giving it a final ranking. And, the wheel of fate will give us a new film to watch next week!

For the first time in the history of The Quest for the Bestest, the wheel has given us a musical to evaluate. And, certain members have made it clear that they are not huge fans of the musical genre. Will the very different nature of this film cause the Back Log Boys much trouble in finding a place on the list? How do you compare musicals with other best picture winners? We will have to find that out in this episode, as well as what Best Picture winner is up for grabs next week!

It is a well known fact that Tanner loves a good journalism movie. But did you know that Tanner and the rest of the boys disagree on what makes a good journalism movie? There's sure to be some hearty discussion in this episode as the Boys try to rank Spotlight. Stick around until the end to find out what film we're talking about next time!

We've got a special guest this week to fill in for Abram as it's his week off! Timo's friend Ryan joins the remaining Back Log Boys to discuss Kramer Vs. Kramer. It's definitely not your typical Best Picture winner but it has provided some interesting talking points nonetheless. And while Ryan's vote only sort of doesn't count (just for consistency with the voting block) he's for sure got some very well thought out observations about this film. As always, stick around until the end to find out where we place Kramer vs. Kramer and what film we'll be reviewing next time.
UH OH! Get yourself ready for a firey discussion about Fred Zinnemann's war drama (?) of the days leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Some of the Back Log Boys think one way about this movie, and some of them think the exact opposite. There's no way that this can end in a mutually agreed placement... Oh well, it makes for an interesting discussion. Check out the end of the episode to find out what movie we're watching next week.

The Back Log Boys are headed to the 2010s for the first time since the very beginning of the show! America seems to be getting a pretty bad rap with the movies that we've seen. Will they be able to handle the pressure of Ben Affleck's 2012 historical drama ARGO? This movie definitely makes a splash one way or another, but it remains to be seen if it's a graceful nose-dive or a glorious belly-flop. Of course we'll be placing our trust into the hands of the random number wheel and finding out what film is up next at the end of the episode.

Out of all the wars, the conflict in Vietnam is surely a strange one to be an aficionado of. That doesn't stop Timo, though. But what do the other Back Log Boys think about not only the war but Oliver Stone's depiction of it? Will the war crimes be too much? Or does it pale in comparison to other movies of the same conflagration? And as always, find out what movie we'll be tackling next week with our random spin at the end of the episode.
