When the bickering staff of the Theater Brothers Theater—a family-owned dump on the outskirts of nowhere special—decide to host their own awards show, chaos erupts faster than Oppenheimer’s nuclear blast. Trapped in the basement by a rogue inflatable Godzilla, the crew watches as their makeshift “Poppy Awards” spirals into madness: talking popcorn buckets debate Barbie’s existential crisis, celebrity impersonators botch Killers of the Flower Moon monologues, and The Iron Claw’s wrestling drama gets reenacted with mops.

Will Peter and Theo survive sibling rivalry? Can Alex the Projectionist overcome his fart-induced trauma? And why is Oppenheimer losing Best Picture to a sentient tub of butter? Packed with 2023’s biggest hits (Barbie! Poor Things! Spider-Verse!), absurd parodies, and snack-based sabotage, this semi-improvised comedy is the Oscars’ unhinged cousin.

When the spazzy staff of the run down Theater Brothers Theater gets a stomach bug (aka bubble gut & hot snake), they pop on a cassette recording from June 12, 1981. On it, little Peter Theater is trying to find a replacement part for the theater popcorn popper. But his brother Theo-and some other weird things-keep getting in his way. He'll need the help of an odd new friend and a magical mother figure to get him out of this one! It's one part ridiculous homage to Raiders of the Lost Ark, one part heart-warming tale about childhood chums. It's all Buttercast.

Peter wants to know what that one type of shot is. You know, that one where it goes in and out at the same time. So Alex and Theo mansplain it by lining up a selection of the greatest Dolly Zooms (aka the Zoom Dolly aka the Vertigo Shot, aka the Zolly Shot, aka the Jaws Effect, aka the Telescoping Shot aka the Contra-Zoom, aka Trombone Shot, aka Push-Pull Zoom aka Zido aka Triple Reverse Zoom aka Smash Shot). See (with your ears) classic moments from Vertigo, Marnie, Raging Bull, Le Samourai, Poultergeist, ET, The Quick and The Dead, Fellowship of the Ring, Brick, Ratatouille, and E.T. Also, we clean the theater and sing.

The Real Butter Buttercast presents another all-new vintage show. It's the spring of 1940 and young Thaddeus Theater is hosting the Pettibone Pomade Theater of the Air! But when his brothers Edgar and Hubert show up, with a hideous ventriloquist dummy in tow, things heat up in all the wrong ways. They review Disney's masterful animated feature Pinocchio and Howard Hawk's screwball comedy His Girl Friday. They also cause a lot of career-killing chaos.
