Melanie is the President of the Michigan chapter of USPIE, which seeks to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children's education. Today we talk about the problems in the public-school system as well as possible solutions to those problems. USPIE believes that the parents are the best educators for their children, and we talk about how parents can help their children learn in ways that are fun, encourage their natural curiosity, and that allow them to learn at their own pace. We cover the problems in Common Core Math, how to assess what your kids may be learning in school, and other possible ways to ensure your children get a good education. If you are going to take government money, you will be subject to the rules that come with that money, which may not be in the best interest of your child or their education. Learn how this national organization, USPIE, is advocating for parents, teachers, and most importantly, the kids!

The Purpose of Education

What is the purpose of education? Is it for our kids to be able to memorize and regurgitate information on a test? Is it so they can pass a test? What happens when a school dumbs down a test for a high school senior that a first grader should be able to pass? We talk about some of the unknown and crazy things going on in schools across the US, the literacy rates, the results of 60 years of sex education, and more. Do you know what your kids are learning in school?

Who should be teaching our kids? The UN would like to be in charge of all the schooling for all students around the world. Many countries and some states in the US have made homeschooling illegal or more difficult to do. We talk about homeschooling results, some of the options available if you want to homeschool your kids, and some of the protections out there for parents to be able to have more control over the education and well-being of their kids. We also cover how technology is affecting the education of our youth.

Winning in an Imperfect World

To win, we must first understand the world that we live in. We discuss the government, education, and mindset. We also need to understand that nothing is truly flawless but that we can love and respect something even if it isn't perfect. We talk about living in the Warehouse and how it wasn't perfect living conditions. However, what was gained from that time set us up for a much better future. Appreciate where you are and what you have, even if you want to have more someday. If someone else has achieved more and has earned more than you, learn what they did, so you can emulate the good behaviors and mindset that got them there. We can create a great life for ourselves and our children. Our mindset, our will, and our actions will determine our outcome. A big lesson is that for us to win, no one has lose. Everyone involved in a deal can win and walk away happy. We relate some of the things that we have learned to history as well as today, so you can learn how you can win in an imperfect world!

Government Accountability Needed

There is a big difference between being licensed to do something and being qualified to do it. There is also a big difference between someone who is responsible enough to have set aside cash to buy a house and an immigrant taking a bag full of hundred-dollar bills and multiple passports. Unfortunately, our government seems to be punishing the innocent citizens while letting guilty parties go free. Where is the accountability? We talk about multiple government agencies that we had to deal with just over a 2 day period. Is that agency beneficial? Should our tax money be spent on those agencies? We need to rein in governmental agencies and figure out who is really helping versus those who aren't doing their job. If you are seeing similar problems and want to see there be some accountability, this is the episode for you!
