August 24, 2018Episode 107: Part 1. The Importance Of Identity With A Focus On ADHD.We talk about the two types of identity. As cavemen we needed to know to which tribe we belonged and to function according to our strengths within that tribe so we could contribute as much as possible with the greatest satisfaction to the well being of the tribe. To that end although everyone was a member of the tribe individual differences were identified and welcomed as a way of best placing that member of the tribe. Psychopaths are less tribal and therefore either end up leading or being rejected. To identify your own strengths be self aware. Only too often individuals' natural anxiety robs them of self awareness so that they live their life doing what they think they need to do and not what they want. That coupled with a catastrophic loss of group identity has led to increasing depression anxiety suicide violence and identity politics. All symptoms of a poorly run society....more40minPlay
August 17, 2018Episode 106: Does Power And Technology Of Capitalism Give Us Eutopia Or dystopia? Know Thyself Mankind. What is an ideal society? Has the power and technology from our capitalist materialistic society helped as get closer to achieving our perfect lives? We argue the opposite. Socrates the ancient Greek Philosopher coined the phrase " know thyself" and perhaps that is what mankind needs to ponder as we now live in the most fragmented dysfunctional unhappy societies in recent history and political correctness and identity politics is the latest manifestation of this. Mankind evolved along with apes to function successfully in small tightly knit groups. Melting pots of dissimilar people crammed shoulder to shoulder with no unifying identity and indeed where our natural tendency to fear and reject difference is criminalised is anathema to us. We also question whether utopia would be all that appealing. On closer examination it would be very unstimulating and would quickly lead to boredom and discontent. It is the responsibility of government to lead us to being unified and homogeneous in identity. This was achieved by religion in the past in the West. We need to champion the nuclear family and local community. The only religion powerful enough at the moment is Islam although capitalism has eroded that as well. Otherwise mankind may drop of the cliff edge of the sine wave of species evolution and make way for the next rulers of the earth. Here's hoping that we become rapidly wiser or indeed they in their turn are....more44minPlay
August 11, 2018Episode 105: Letter Boxes Muslims Fundamentalists Are Not All The Same.Letter boxes, Muslims and fundamentalists are not the same. Get This Wrong And You Bring Radicals Into The Heart Of Your Community under the guise of political correctness and free speech which suggests that the latter are euphemisms for destructive ignorance. Boris Johnson does understand the difference. Perhaps that is why although he is a self serving psychopath he could also be the greatest leader Britain is about to have....more46minPlay
August 03, 2018Episode 104: Are We All Becoming Weaker? Are all becoming weaker? Is this why more and more of us feel offended more of the time? In reality it is a fault of weak leadership leaving us with an identity crisis so that society has borderline personality disorder by proxy. Humans are not weaker, but they are easily led as they need leadership. Rule by the people works in evolutionary terms in relatively small groups with clear identity but cannot work on a large scale. Religion is a product of Darwinian evolution and solves this problem by turning fear and reward into fantasy which is infinitely more powerful than reality and functions as a transcontinental tribe. Democracy on a large scale is simply reality TV and the typical game of vested interest politicians play. There is no doubt that the ability of mass human cooperation fostered by religion led to the ascent of man into the industrial age which ironically gave man the illusion of power and wisdom to question the substance of religion . The very source of his own success. Where has this led us? The monkey house of Question Time in Parliament and Brexit chaos and mass immigration and UK law bowing to Sharia Law....more45minPlay
July 27, 2018Episode 103: Transference And Countertransference , Stereotyping, HierarchyAre men and women equal in terms of how they see themselves in society? If so why are more marriages failing and less women getting married the more they earn in relation to men? Men are hierarchy sensitive because of their need to compete for mates. Women are the ultimate decision makers in nature and in today's society so are less hierarchy sensitive. Yet females if they earn more than their mate will tend to underestimate their earnings and males if they earn less to over estimate. This is due to their subconscious transference. This is our emotional response to a person or situation based to exposure to previous people or situations in the past. In evolutionary terms it helped us survive by immediately responding to potentially dangerous situations. In any professional relationship the client will have their transference with the professional. The latter however is duty bound to remain objective, impartial and professional. They need to be aware of the clients transference and the response that tbmhus engenders in them : the counter transference. This is morally neutral. What matters is how they respond to it. Unless they handle it professionally then they can do untold damage to the professional relationship with the client and is especially salient in patient/therapist interactions....more45minPlay
July 17, 2018Episode 102: Blimps And Brexit Scandal. Where Is Common Sense ?The common theme running through this week's events is a lack of any common sense or morality or loyalty or respect for country and Constitution. Free speech was the argument for the Trump blimp but this shows no understanding about the purpose of free speech which is to allow people freedom of thought. If you think, you risk insulting but pure insulting with no respect for the Presidency shows ignorance and abuse of free speech. How can Theresa May head a Brexit government when she herself was a remainer? Surely she should have declared a conflict of interest? Proof of the pudding! We discuss how hierarchy is innate in the animal kingdom and is mainly a male phenomenon based on the need to find mates. The animal kingdom also shows that ruthless dictators are usually deposed violently and that leaders lead usually with the approval of the people but that works only on a small scale as was declared in ancient Greece the cradle of democracy. Hence the genius of religion which puts leadership and punishment in the fantasy realm where it is infinitely more powerful than anything tangible. The irony is that human success in attaining industrialisation has intellectualy challenged the concept and need for God and consequently led to mass slaughter in the 20th century. Humans need regulation. The credit crunch happened because of financial de regulation and currently there is mass fraud on a staggering scale in China as there is little regulation there as far as Western rights are concerned. We conclude once again the a return to family values and close community is what the world is lacking. And this needs to be state driven....more45minPlay
July 06, 2018Episode 101: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Trauma And Phobia The Unknown Epidemic?Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is an example of a crossover with normal everyday traits albeit with a crucial difference. The first you feel compelled to do even though you don't want to, the second defines your sense of perfectionism professionalism and pride in what you do. You think it is reasonable and justified. Anxiety increases the likelihood of being held hostage to an obsession. For instance how many people suddenly become more religious under stress? OCD has its roots in the most ancient times of the evolution of species. All living organisms with self awareness need arousal in order to be motivated to acquire basic needs of survival and be alert in order to escape predators. OCD can have two components which are intrusive unpleasant thoughts (surrogate predators) and Compulsive actions such as checking cleaning washing (surrogate survival needs). OCD so simply hijaks our primitive survival circuits that it can often last decades. Clearly the fear associated with OCD is irrational and indeed research shows you are almost guaranteed never to act on unpleasant obsessional thoughts. Irrational anxiety is also seen in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Phobias. The gold standard of treatment is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (which can sometimes work alone) in combination with a medication to raise serotonin (serotonin re uptake inhibitors-SSRI).There are rapid reprocessing techniques such as EMDR (Shapiro) and Theo's own distilled version which work much faster and very effectively. There is plenty of help for sufferrers. There is helpful material online although your GP is the best gateway to licenced professionals who will be able to help you....more42minPlay
June 30, 2018Episode 100: Immigration, Can People Think For Themselves Or Do They Need Rules And RegulationWe start off talking about immigration and go on to the psychology of fear and motivation and look at what is necessary to get things done. We discuss whether people can think for themselves or whether we need rules and regulations and pursuant to this that democracy is not the framework which can provide this with endles mazes of vested interest including media misreporting. Time and again if any leader tries to get anything done they need to take a more dictatorial stance and usually democratic mechanisms sabotage their efforts. Yet the penny never drops. The really educated powerful and rich observe from a distance in their ivory towers. Inequality of capitalism....more44minPlay
June 22, 2018Episode 99: Why Is Europe Failing?Immigration has always occured so why is it a problem now? The answer is because it has become unregulated so systems if assimilation - such as they are as they are mostly woefuly inadquate - are swamped. This leads to social unrest and further paradoxically fuels the rise of the identitists and political correctness as vulnerability is a sanctimonious band wagon that is hard to hinder. However this further attacks the shaky fabric of the society we live in. German and French politicians for the cause of seeking their own immortality are without understanding human nature seeking to establish a Federal European State with an overarching identity. However the reason why the United Stars works is that each State has a significant degree of autonomy and its own identity. By seeking rapid change- as is necessary if these politicians are to see results in their electorial life cycle they are causing entire populations to feel acute and severe threat which has been shown to increase the risk of bottom up authoritarianism which explains the rise of the far right. If left unchecked there are pitch forks in the horizon....more44minPlay
