  • Everything You Need To Know About Neil Gorsuch (Including Roe v. Wade)
Georgetown Law's Randy Barnett sat down with Reason's Nick Gillespie to weigh in on Trump's nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme court.
Barnett said he was cautiously optimistic about Gorsuch. "Of all the people on [Trump's] list, he was certainly near the top," Barnett said. Gorsuch, he says, is well-read, smart, and a staunch defender of originalism like Justice Scalia.
"There's the old 'framers intent,' which people say if they don't know what they're talking about," Barnett said. "Gorusch says 'original public meaning,' which means he knows what he's talking about" when it comes constrained interpretation of laws.
Barnett said he believes the addition of Gorsuch to the Supreme Court could have a significant impact on whether or not a reinterpretation of abortion rights is in the future. "Roe v. Wade is not settled," Barnett said. "Could [a decision] happen? I think it could...in the sense that it's been contested since it was decided. As a result I can seem them undoing it and sending [the issue of abortion] back to the states."

  • What We Saw at the #MuslimBan Protest at LAX
President Trump famously called for a halt to all Muslim immigration during his campaign, and he seemed set to follow through only a week after being sworn in by signing an executive order that not only stops all refugees from entering the country for at least 120 days and Syrian refugees indefinitely, but puts a 90-day hold on travel visa and even green card holders from several predominantly Muslim countries.
The chaos ensuing from Trump's executive actions led to protests at JFK Airport in New York and in front of the Tom Bradley International terminal in LA, where Reason TV was on the scene to talk with demonstrators.

  • Are Education Savings Accounts the Future of School Choice? What We Saw at the Texas School Choice Rally in Austin
Texas has a reputation as a business-friendly state that favors the free market and consumer choice over heavy government regulation.
But when it comes to education reform and school choice, they're actually behind the curve. Like parents in many states, those in Texas must send their children to public schools in their district unless they have the cash for a private school, leaving choice in education only to the wealthiest.

  • The Cops Are Interested in Your Tattoos
Law enforcement has looked at and recorded tattoos on alleged gang members for a long time, but recently law enforcement has been looking to automate the process. That means moving away from binders with photographs of tattoos and toward computerized databases that can analyze similarities in design. The process is called bio-metrics, and law enforcement has already been using it to digitally scan your fingerprints, faces and irises to easily ascertain your identity.

  • Have Republicans Turned Against Trade? We Asked Them.
Once upon a time, the GOP claimed to be the party of free markets and free trade.
Then came Donald Trump, who's called NAFTA a "disaster" and said he'd be open to placing tariffs of up to 45 percent on Chinese imports.
Reason visited Bakersfield—a farming and oil town in California's Central Valley that went 60 percent Trump this past election—to talk to GOP activists and Trump voters about trade, jobs, and the president-elect. Have Republican's really turned against free trade and free markets?
Produced by Zach Weissmueller and Justin Monticello. Graphics by Joshua Swain. Music by Igor Khabarov and Jon Luc Hefferman.
