For May the 4th it’s Homestead keeping, a regular segment within most of the base shows, but since there was a bunch of little bits I’ve recorded over the past few weeks, as Mandalorian came to a close, it made since to coming them into one show, as we get closer to the Galaxy Anniversary show, which wouldn’t have much more room, as it will be crammed with awesome interviews from a good group of folks.

Huntsville Comic & Pop Culture Expo

In this show, as you heard from the intro, I spent a little time at the Huntsville Comic & Pop Culture Expo in Huntsville, Alabama. I got to catch up with Franc and Amy Mulder as well as finally meeting one of the members of Card Squadron, David Nicely, who was on the program, waaaayyy back in episode 59. In addition to David, I talked with Jenny Riddle, a cosplayer from the Rebel Legion at Tranquilty Base in Alabama who was trooping with the 501st members of the Alabama Garrison. They had a nice display with some droids from the local Droidbuilder chapter.

Kara DJ stops by for a minute on the program. The driving force behind the ‘Into a Larger World’ Fanzine. Kara was on the program in episode 103. She gives a nice overview of her time in London at Celebration Europe and a little news on the next issues of the zine, due out later this year.

Sam Tashima, our roving Star Wars CCG player and reporter also drops by to give us an overview of the 2023 Nationals held in Minnesota not long ago, and some dates for the upcoming tourneys for the classic Decipher card game, that is driven by the Players committee.

Finally, since we are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi later this month, the film was re-released back in a selection of theaters. Many of you in the community did have a chance to see it and was lucky enough to find some time myself. Romeo Ortiz, from the Vintage Star Wars club has been doing some cool video interviews for his instagram channel and while we were doing another segment, I rolled tape on our conversation of seeing the film back on the big screen.

The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, or C2E2 as it is more commonly known, is one of the largest pop-culture conventions in the midwest, taking place in downtown Chicago at the McCormick Place convention center. This year, 2023 it was held the weekend of March 31st to April 2nd. Celebrities, artists, authors, fans, cosplayers, collectors, and vendors, converge all in one place to meet, share and enjoy their passions. Some consider this an unofficial kick-off to the U.S. convention season. This episode contains conversations with several folks who came either as an exhibitor or attendee.

Kicking off a short vacation, I meet up with Tom Gross and Dan Reem from Teachers in the Dungeon at Gary Con XV.

Recorded onsite at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, GaryCon celebrates all things Dungeons & Dragons at the birthplace of the game and TSR Hobbies. Tom Gross, Coffee with Kenobi newsman along with fellow educator Dan Reem started the podcast Teachers in the Dungeon, in order to share a passion for the roll playing game and their adventures with lessons on both victory and defeat.

This year TIHD returned to not only participate, but to host a session on running a D&D group for kids, but running a camp for them during summer break.

While walking the show floor, I landed at the booth Smugglers Coffee and talked with Dave and Jim who were running the booth.

A short & sweet episode with audio from a large local card and auto show here in the Chicagoland area. It’s a nice prep for C2 and it’s always fun to find non-sports goodness in a sports show.

The Chicago Sports Spectacular is a show that takes place 2-3 times a year at the Donald E. Stephans Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. It typically features many sports and entertainment autograph opportunities plus fields a health vendor area for card and sports collectible seekers, plus of late, more places to submit cards and autos for authentication and grading.

I ran into my collector friend Karl Schmidt, aka @pilo64 who was waiting on the opportunity to have Hall of Famer Bobby Orr autograph a puck he had. Orr, better known for his days with the Boston Bruins, had played for a time with the Chicago Blackhawks

I also found a vendor, Gary Bergquist, who had a very nice table of Non-sport cards and boxes, probably one of the better non-sport offerings at sports card show. Him and his wife were kind enough to talk for a few minutes on a very hectic Saturday afternoon.

Although pretty busy at his booth, Topps artist Josh Trout showed me a few of the items he had brought with him from his home in Omaha. Although he does mainly sports sketches for Topps, he did get in a handful of Sketchcards for the Masterwork 2022 Set for Star Wars..

Another great double feature on the Breakfast Pack with my friend and co-host, Gregory Cass from eyeoncanon.com - Last week we again tackled both Batch and Mando in a supersized show, as ‘The Convert,’ episode 3 from the new season of The Mandalorian was itself an hour long this week. We led off with a great discussion of ‘Pabu,’ which was the 13th episode of Season 2 of The Bad Batch. Only 3 more installments of the Batch before the end of the month.
