It’s much easier to claim we are healed from our past wounds than it is to actually deal with them.

So you have some church hurt or spiritual abuse? How are you going to recover? Do you tear everything you thought you knew to the ground? That’s acceptable. Are you going to try and spend some time patching up the rotten theology and beliefs? That’s a beautiful way to start. Just, please, don’t ignore the problem and keep on going with complete disregard to your spiritual health.
You wouldn’t drive a car with a flat tire because it will in turn destroy the rim, axle, and transmission. So why then would you claim all is well spiritually and jump to the next church pew, outreach, or mission opportunity knowing good and well that you are spiritually broke down?
This week, we are talking about faking it till you make it, or rather, how we as Christians are never taught how to spiritually save and invest in our wellbeing: Especially when it comes to “servanthood”. Sometimes you have to stop and just be. Life and faith are not about constantly “doing”.

Bible Bullies: people who use their perspectives of scripture to justify their actions or inactions. The act of belittling someone else’s understandings of God to elevate one’s own ego.

If you spend any time talking about anything bible related, sooner or later you are going to encounter a Bible Bully. These are the people that always demand scripture just to demean it once shared and tell you that you’re “using it out of context”. Then they turn around and throw scripture right back at you. They often claim they want to understand your perspective but the truth is they only want to understand enough to belittle you and secure their false sense of self-righteous superiority.
Bible Bullies are often headstrong and so caught up in their idolized version of God that they cannot even see the true Christ in others. But these people are not bad people, they are just trying to protect their fragile world from collapsing. I mean, how many of us that began questioning our faith were ounce those people?
This week, we are talking about how to address, engage with, and love Bible Bullies. We look at how Jesus handled very similar situations and how we can apply His actions to our lives. Spoiler alert: It starts with the understanding that we are each on our own individual, spiritual journey.

When crap hits the fan everyone in the room ends up covered in feces. (How’s that for an opening sentence!) There’s no escape from a big stink. The more drama, hatred, and division we toss-up, the more junk that just ends up raining right back down on us.
This week, we are talking about seeing Christ in others and that in doing so, we honor the Christ in us. We discuss how there are no bad people, only levels of brokenness. When we realize this truth we can take the first steps away from assuming people’s desires and the next steps toward understanding our fellow Christ-filled humanity’s hearts.

The Reckless Pursuit has come under fire on more than one occasion for not choosing sides. We make it our goal to attempt and see different angles of each story. Our desire is for unity and we believe that the only way to achieve that is to understand the heart behind each person beyond their thoughts and indoctrinations.
This week, we are talking about the dangers of collectivism and giving our reason for why it is actually good to straddle the fence. Now sure, there are times you have to take action. One cannot live in the middle all the time, but if more people put forth the effort to understand someone else’s heart desire, we truly believe unity would be closer to our grasp.

It saddens us that 2 hears after this conversation with Brian Gregory aired, we are having to revisit this conversation once again. It saddens us that people of color are still discriminated against and that in 2020, a year that has already been challenging enough for so many, now has added yet another burden. But let’s be honest. Racism is still prevalent and the world is coming to a tipping point.
Something has to change, something has to give. People cannot lose their lives because of skin color. People cannot be fearful of hatred or worse just because they look “different”. We have to have this conversation. We have to keep having this conversation. We have to actively make a choice to listen, to learn, and to strive for something better.
Join us this week as we revisit this conversation we had with our good friend Brian Gregory back in 2018 about racism, the church, and how we can grow together.

We have not been the best at self-care, tbh. We have been so busy planning for NOMAD 2020, Elaine’s writing, Cody’s music challenge, and our business stuff has left us tired and a bit overwhelmed. Being in a creative season means dumping your heart out on the floor and praying that others appreciate your hard work.\
But all with all the romanticism aside, we realize we have to take more time to honor our temples as we move forward in this season. So let this episode be an open letter between you and us: Let’s make sure to honor the God in ourselves, even when it feels like we are way too busy to even stop. It isn’t just healthy, it's a necessity.

Communication is a beautiful gift that is expressed through many mediums. From spoken word to poetry and writing, we have been given the ability to use our own artistic expression to help convey our thoughts and feelings. Communication opens the door to let others into our minds and our hearts.
This week, we are talking with Levi the Poet, one of Elaine’s personal inspirations in her journey and passion into writing as an artistic expression. We discuss Levi’s creative process as well as the driving force behind his poetry. We also discuss how God is found in the midst of some of our darkest places and how despite our desire for avoidance, life is found in the center of the things that test us the most.

Born the introverted son of a father whose mental illness led to suicide, and a mother who clung to her faith, Levi turned to writing as a therapeutic means of private expression.
At the age of 18, he began to share his work in the form of spoken word poetry. Levi's broad taste in everything from hardcore to hip-hop has resulted in a unique contribution to the genre that seems to both fit and transcend it.

COVID shut down one of our business’. We could choose to see the loss, the scarcity, or the uncertainty, or we can focus on finding the beauty in a new flow. This isn’t to say we need to abandon our thoughts and turn a blind eye to reality, rather that we can choose to see the good and use it to grow.
This week we are talking about what is bringing us joy and how we are experiencing God in a new way even after we had to pivot due to these current circumstances. God is in every moment, it’s (not so) simply our job to see it.

Islamaphobia in Christianity: Which belief is ACTUALLY doing the “devil’s work”?

Racism is a terrible thing, there’s no arguing that. But what if your racism isn’t perceived as such? What if this version of racism is deemed “the Lord’s work” by many and shunned by few?
This week, we are continuing our conversion with Jordan and Camille of Halidom. Last time we talked about racism amidst COVID-19 but this week we drilled down on one of the worst, most rampant forms of racism that plague not only our Western culture but Christianity as a whole. We are talking about racism and propaganda towards Muslim culture.
Muslims are a group so often misunderstood in our circles of faith that it borderlines insanity and is nestled well into the notion of ridiculousness. We spread blatant lives, make boldfaced assumptions, and allow our cherry-picked ideas of their beliefs to categorize them with the most extreme versions of their religion (all the while turning a blind eye to our own).
This is a heavy topic, but one that needs to be addressed so let’s get right to it.

* Terrorism framing Muslim culture
* Christian’s desire to have an enemy
* Racism in the early church
* The Chrsitian false doctrine of superiority
* Christian vs Muslim terrorism in the eyes of the media
