  • 094 - Surviving The Holidays After A Shift In Beliefs
It’s beginning to look a lot like… well, another awkward family gathering where everyone is going to question seemingly everything you’ve ever done. But not to worry! We prepared this episode just for you!
Whether Christmas is one of your favorite times of the year or one of your most dreaded, there’s no denying the fact that sooner or later we will all be faced with the dreaded conversation about our life choices and faith. Some will be accepting and others, well, they might go on a tirade demanding you find your way back to their predetermined belief constructs they have for you.
Don’t let the holidays get you worked up! Remember your life is yours to live and you do not owe anyone an explanation. Take the high road, stick to your boundaries, and most of all, enjoy those around you. Yes, even the ones that believe different and just don't get you.
    This week we talked about:
    * holiday stress and anxiety
    * How to respect yourself during the holidays
    * How to respect other people during the holidays
    * How to respect God during the holidays
    * Setting and respecting boundaries with family and friends
    * Every conversation is a chance to learn

  • 093 - Loving People to Love God
Does God care more about how you love people or how you love him?
In Matthew 19 we find the familiar story of the rich young ruler. So often we hear it taught how we need to abandon our possessions and follow Christ or how our love for things will keep us from heaven. (Camel and a needle anybody?) But what if Jesus wasn’t saying that at all? No, what if Jesus was more concerned with how this man treated the creation more so than the creator?
This week we are talking about how to truly love God, we must first love people. We discuss what it means to put effort behind your prayer, to be present with someone despite their beliefs, and what it means to intercede. We also discuss how we so often group certain socioeconomic classes of people together instead of seeing individuals as unique creations of God.
Showing the love of Christ is so much more than preaching at someone. It is being present and giving someone a piece of yourself to exhibit an aspect of GOd’s love they could only receive through you. After all, being present is the best present you could ever give.
    This week we talked about:
    * Story of the rich young ruler - Matthew 19:16
    * Loving God by loving your fellow man
    * God’s value in loving humanity
    * Showing love without preaching
    * Prayer AND being present with people
    * Finding God in humanity
    * Understanding God’s love through unique relationships

  • 092 - We Too (With Mary DeMuth)
Sexual abuse has been a hot topic this year, but its so much more than just a church debate. There are real people with real trauma who want more than anything to be able to share their stories, to help others, to heal, and to be heard. The Christian community has been silent long enough. Its time to give victims of sexual abuse a voice and allow them to be heard.
This week, we are talking with Mary DeMuth, author of We Too. Mary is an abuse survivor turned advocate for those who have been sexually abused. She has a heart to see the church unite in an uprising to help those who have been victimized as well as to help educate us on this pressing issue.
    This week we talked about:
    Sexual abuse
    Finding your victory through trauma
    SBC allegations
    Complementarianism vs Egalitarianism
When to leave church after abuse
Community as a part of your healing
Mental shifts that takes place within an abuse survivor
Why did God allow bad things to happen
    Healing better together
pornography and sex culture’s attribution toward sexual abuse
allowing room for forgiveness when the time is right
    GUEST INFO:
If you met Mary DeMuth today, her joy might confuse you. Who she has become in light of tragedy is a testimony of Jesus’s ability to transform a broken life. A child of three divorces, a victim of repeated sexual assault at five-years old, with a father who died when she was ten, Mary wanted to end her life in her teens. In the tenth grade, she heard about Jesus, and she knew she wanted to chase after Him for the rest of her life. Thankfully, He chased her.
Mary is the author of forty books, including her latest: We Too: How the Church Can Respond Redemptively to the Sexual Abuse Crisis (Harvest House 2019). She has spoken around the world about God’s ability to transform a life, bringing needed freedom to her audiences. She’s been on CNN and featured in The Washington Post, and she’s spoken in Munich, Johannesburg, Port au Prince, Geneva and Monte Carlo, and planted a church with her family in southern France.
Her best work? Being a mom to three amazing young adults and the wife of 28 years to Patrick. She makes her home in Dallas alongside her husband, an energetic chocolate lab, and a fuzzy black cat.

  • 091 - Are We Asking the Right Questions?
Are we asking the right questions? Is there even a right question to ask? What is the point in asking questions if we never take any action?
This week, we are talking about how to turn church from a noun to a verb and to put movement to our questions. We have a passion and desire to give voice to the questions that are being asked in private but how can we do that even better? We believe by sharing experience.
    This week we talked about:
Learning about God through other perspectives
Church is a Verb, not a noun
Experiencing God, not just learning about God
The action of prayer and church
experiencing God at this moment through the Holy Spirit

  • 090 - The Renewing Of Your Mind (With Todd R. Vick)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:12
What does it mean to renew your mind? Is it reading scripture? Is it sharing the gospel? Or maybe it’s something different altogether.
This week we are talking with Todd R. Vick, Author of “The Renewing of Your Mind”. Todd shares about how we can remap our brains to get in sync with God, how traditions and religion have caused us to lose sight of what a relationship with God looks like, and what a renewed mind looks like. Todd also shares about his deconstruction as a pastor and how it birthed the idea for his book.
Now, Todd is on a reconstruction journey. The church might look a bit different but he has a new, fresh perspective on who God is and how to align with Him. Also, Todd shared some extremely interesting stories, one of which deals with racism in a traditional church and how his life was threatened by a church member due to his desire for inclusivity.
    This week we talked about:
    renewing of the mind
neuroplasticity and how it relates to our faith
    reconstruction
    The Americanized Church
Evangelism and the truth behind the practice
Inclusivity vs Racism in traditional church

  • 089 - God Is Energy
Have you ever wondered what God is? How is He omnipresent? What makes up the spiritual world? While we are at it, what about reincarnation? Is that in the Bible?
Everything around us is moving to some degree and movement is energy. So if God is moving on the earth than He must be a form of energy too! This week we talk about how to identify and get on God’s wavelength, how getting in sync with God is a lot like reincarnation, and how we can inherit certain mentalities (aka vibrations) from our ancestors.
Nothing but good vibes up in here! Oh, and if that offends you then maybe this episode is for you after all.
    This week we talked about:
    • Reincarnation
    • The energy
    • spirituality as energy
    • God’s omnipresence
    • Generational curses and the passing down of Spiritual mantles

  • 088 - Celebrating Halloween With Purpose (With Austin Fletcher)
What does it mean to celebrate Halloween with purpose? How can you bring purpose into a holiday?
To some this day in all candy and costumes, yet to others it is all demons and devil worship. But what if we told you it was actually all in your intent? This week, Austin Fletcher is back on the show and he is bringing a very unique perspective to the table. As someone who deals in both Christianity and New age, Austin can see both good and bad intention in something and helps us understand that like most things, the value of our celebrations come down to our intent.
But this week we talked about so much more than just Halloween. We rabbit trailed off into how to revive the local church, personal conviction, and so much more. Not to mention this whole conversation just flowed so easily! You don’t want to miss it!
    This week we talked about:
    The actual danger of halloween
    the intent of your actions
    The Value of Denominations
A method to save the church
Being branded as backslidden or a heretic
    Reincarnation
    GUEST INFO:

  • 087 - Christian Superstition
Christians and superstition go together like ham and eggs or a pb&j. For some reason, we are drawn to the idea that there are big and bad things that are waiting to overtake us. We cling to the idea that evil is a lion and blend it with the metaphor that we are nothing but sheep.
But what if our superstitions actually GAVE power to the very things we fear? That is exactly what we are discussing this week. The truth that our mindset is what empowers an action.
From Ouija Boards to curses and hexes,we talk about all things deemed impure by most Christian standards. We create our atmosphere. Don’t let the fear of the unknown overpower a GOd that is bigger than creation.

  • 086 - Christopaganism (With Jeremy and Irena Warriner)
Paganism and Christianity, living harmoniously together. Each one drawing from the other. But does this even make sense? How can two things that are so different exist side-by-side? Or are they so very different after all?
This week we are talking with Jeremy and Irena Warriner. Jeremy grew up in the methodist church but neglected his faith as he grew older and went off to college. But when he accidentally attended a ceremony put on by witches, he found that old spark again. Tragically, Jeremy lost his legs in an automobile accident and was placed in a medically induced coma for 6 weeks. It was during this time he had a spiritual awakening and realized just how similar so many religions actually are.
Irena grew up in a conservative, patriarchal Christian atmosphere. After getting pregnant at 18, her church shunned her and cast her out. She soon married but was treated more like an item and less as a human. Due to his dogmatic upbringing, he attempted to silence Irena’s voice in the name of his faith. Luckily, Irena found her place with a local earth-based religious group. Now she is a priestess in the Temple of Ascension and a practicing committee member of their local Christian church.
This is a beautiful story of two people coming together to understand God in a deeper way. We invite you to come and allow any superstition to fall off as we get to know both of these amazing people better.

  • 085 - Finding a Place to Land
Deconstruction is volatile. It leaves you feeling spiritually homeless and yet there is an excitement about rebuilding something so much greater than before. The process of reconstruction is a beautiful dive back into the very thing we turned away from but this time, with a new, more focussed mindset on finding God.
This week, we are talking about reconstruction. We are talking about finding a place to land after having been in a holding pattern for so long. Deconstruction is a beautiful thing but whether it be a new structure, a forest, or a monument, reconstruction is vital to finding a sustainable place in life. Without reconstruction, deconstruction can cause us to get trapped in a constant circle, burning fuel with nowhere to settle down.
Oh, and PS. IT IS OCTOBER! We have a bunch of spooky stuff planned for the rest of this week so keep an open ear!
    This week we talked about:
Intro to our October halloween series
    Reconstruction
    Positivity
    Finding a spot to land
    WEEKLY QUESTION/s:
    • what area of your life have you been in a holding pattern on?
