Election 2020 *Excerpt from first few minutes of episode*

Most of us are aware that there are very real concerns about the fairness and the fraudulence of the current election cycle. Many have also noticed that I am not giving platform to that story. Why? The challenge is that there is no way to cover that comprehensive topic in the amount time that listeners listen to my show. I am thankful for the many of you who tune in for the whole two hours, but most listeners on live radio to not listen that long, so it is actually impossible for me to substantively cover all of the the issues and concerns raised to me on this topic. However, like many of you, I am engaged in prayerful consideration of what is going on in this country.  If you did not hear my conversation with Rod Dreher. We touch on this subject a lot without talking directly about it.

Luke 17

Our Advent reading of the Gospel of Luke brings us into chapter 17 today. Think on these ideas and questions as you read through the chapter.

* Verses 1-10 – Sin matters to God; lead others NOT into temptation; forgive..without end. 

* Verses 11-19 – Are you just using Jesus and then moving on? Jesus cleanses ten lepers but only one returns, recognizing Jesus for who He is and giving thanks to Him. Where are the other nine?

* Verses 20-37 – Meditate on what Jesus says to them about the Kingdom of God and how it has been established in His Son, Jesus. Also, think deeply about what it will mean to recognize Jesus when He comes again to judge the living and the dead.

Let’s Pray Today for Myon Burrell and the Family of Tyesha Edwards

Tyesha was doing her homework at her family’s dining room table when she was shot through the heart by a stray bullet from the street.

Myon Burrell was 16 years old and was sentenced in her death.

He is now 34 years old and continues to maintain his innocence.

Minnesota’s pardon board will consider freeing him today following the recommendation of an independent panet review of national legal experts who agree he was wrongfully convicted. 

It brings about a conversation about Justice…

It brings about a conversation about Mercy…

She was 11. He was 16. He is now 34. If he’s innocent then justice has been perverted; if he’s guilty then he’s served a very long sentence for a crime never intended. 

When we talk about how the system works, this is the kind of case we have to take seriously as a nation. 

So, today, let’s pray for Myron Burrell and the family of Tyesha Edwards.

Today, however, we are in Luke 11! In verses 2 & 3  Jesus teaches his disciples to pray which we always need a reminder of:

“When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins,  for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.”
