Matthew Hawkins and Carmen explore the op ed by Jack Phillips in Newsweek juxtaposing the experience Jack had as a baker who refused to bake a cake and the experience a lesbian cake baker who similarly refused is now having. Jack was eviscerated by the media; the lesbian cake baker is being celebrated. Both refused to bake a cake contrary to their sincerely held beliefs. Why the difference in treatment?

Carmen talks today with Tracy Berta who describes the harrowing 40 minutes she spent in the basement of a coffee shop in Cedar Rapids as the derecho passed overhead. First they heard the roof rip off, then the bricks fell from the sides of the historic house, then the trees in the park across the street were uprooted and tossed about as if by giants. It was like a tornado that just kept coming…for 40 minutes. Tracy is an Iowan and like most of us, she’d never heard of a derecho. Now she’s living in the aftermath.
