U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) recently wrote to the Biden administration seeking federal disaster aid for eastern Washington towns like Malden that were ravaged by wildfires in September. FEMA, under the Trump administration, rebuffed Governor Inslee's request for a major disaster declaration. Senator Murray is also championing a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.

The towns of Malden and Pine City were nearly decimated by a fast-moving wildfire in September. While California and Oregon both saw federal relief within days of their catastrophes, Eastern Washington continues to wait for a simple yes or no from federal authorities.
