I, like literally everyone on this planet, have spent a lot of time searching for happiness and “success” (whatever the f that means) Unfortunately for you, I’m not going to tell you what the secret is. I haven’t figured it out yet. I have, however, noticed a series of concerning patterns both in my own life and in the lives of whoever makes all the internet memes I consume like crazy.
There are essentially 2 camps. Hustle Culture (David Goggins, entrepreneur, mental toughness, Pain is my b**ch) and Self Love (love yourself the way you are, be artistic, find meaning, give yourself a break, chose happiness now)
You can argue for which one is better for you and you’ll probably be right. What I can say is, neither of them are right all the time. Social media promotes certainty. If you are not certain in your message than people won’t listen. You have to endorse something 100% or not at all. For this reason, you might have been lead to believe that only 1 of these camps is the true path to happiness and the other is full of wierdos who are not yet as enlightened as you. Maybe someday they’ll see the light and follow in your footsteps.
It’s not certain. It never has been and it never will be. Not to mention everyone is different. No one knows what they are doing. No one has the most exact perfect formula for happiness and success. So listen to them all. Especially if they conflict. Not only do you need these opposing viewpoints to be a healthy individual, they actually have a symbiotic relationship. Your creativity is improved by discipline. Your business is improved by compassion. You’re mental toughness regimen of 1 million pushups per minute is fueled by the relationships on the other end that improves by you being your best self. Don’t ask me what the answer is. I don’t know just like everyone else. But at least I know that I don’t know.
