Episode 32 - From Me to You (#FM2U) is a one-day music conference that celebrates independent music making. Traditional music industry events are a plenty, but there is an entire universe of lucrative music making that they simply don’t represent, because they are not run by musicians This is where From Me to You is different. FM2U aims to build a strong community that has a group of independent musicians at the heart of it. We spoke with Roxanne to find out more.

Episode 31 - These days, to earn good money from YouTube you need to have a big team around you or be very lucky! Using YouTube to earn income might not be the best idea for artists just starting out but it's a platform that can still really help you develop your audience. We discuss how a shift in the way an independent artist looks at Youtube can have a better payout.

Episode 30 - At first it's hard to define what Carly does, the best way to sum it up would be saying that she "takes people and music that she loves and tells the world about it". Carly uses different channels and platforms to help artists and creatives that she likes go further. This is done through her work as a DJ, a presenter, a curator, a manager and as a creative. We discussed how she ended working with radio stations, big brands and Snapchat. We also touch on the sensitive topic of doing what you love for free versus knowing your value and charging for your services.

Episode 29 - At Reload we always champion the unsigned, independent musician and even though we have over 300 live sessions on YouTube we want to reach new audiences and share our music featuring emerging talent with new listeners. It made sense to make the jump to Spotify and iTunes and so that's exactly what we've done. We have uploaded our first album of 19 songs featuring covers, originals and some of our favourite performances from the past year. In this episode we discuss how you can get your music on a streaming platform.

Episode 28 - A few years ago, when Reload first started shooting live music sessions, an artist called FOLA wrote to us to ask to collaborate with us. We obliged and invited him down to a closed bar in Canning Down to shoot his first session with us. Fast forward a few years and we invited FOLA to join us on the podcast to talk about how his career has changed since we first met him. We wanted to talk about how FOLA gave up his 9-5 non-music-related job to pursue a job in the music industry & while he hasn't reached his final goal he is still earning a living by performing music and doing what he loves.

Episode 27 - 2017 - what a year for emerging talent! Records were broken by Ed Sheeran, charts showed new trends based on Spotify & Apple Music, Stormzy introduced new music to the mainstream sector and much more. It's a great time to be a new artist who is looking to put out fresh music. Earlier on in 2018 we put together an easy-to-read e-book based on trends we have noticed after filming with over 300+ artist. There were six of these trends and we wrote them down with the hope that you - the new generation of musicians - can learn some of the things that others only figured out after years of making music. Josh and Peppe had a chat about the 6 steps that are outlined in our e-book.

Episode 26 - We all know that lyrics make up a huge part of the music we listen to. While some listeners might not even pick up on lyrics, others like to have a good rummage to find out deeper meanings to musical compositions. In walks The Pop Song Professor, aka Clifford Stumme. Clifford has built his brand, podcast and YouTube channel on deconstructing popular songs and trying to figure out what was going on in the minds of the writers. We learn that some artists and songwriters are a lot smarter than we give them credit for while others are missing out on a trick or two by not spending much time on their lyrics.

Episode 25 - Managers come in different forms, it could be a close friend with little experience taking on the roll for an artist or it could a top-tier manager with years of experience under his/her belt - either way, the MMF supports both types of managers developing their knowledge and skills as music through formal courses and more focused workshops and seminars. Annabella joined us to talk about mental health in the industry, The Digital Dollar Report & much more, relevant to both managers and artists who want to keep an eye on how to be self-managed.

Episode 24 - Making mistakes in the creative industries is a big part of the growth process, believe us - we've made our fair share of them! In this episode Joshua and Peppe talk about what went wrong and why it was so important to their growth, both personally and professionally. At the time, mistakes can often feel very heavy and come with dire consequences, but how do we turn a negative into a positive? We share our outlook on things and it's not as rosy as you might think.

Episode 23 - We spoke with Kwame Kwaten about his numerous music-based ventures - from being on the MOBO panel, to touring the country with his band - while still being a top-level manager & keeping an eye out for new talent. We discussed the state of the music industry and how the industry has bounced back from the brink of collapse as well as how young independent artists don't need to be signed to have a successful career anymore.
