There seem to be 2 main extremes when it comes to mental health.
ON ONE HAND, the Church has often shied away from talking about mental health and, instead, communicates that you should just get healing/breakthrough in Christ. This can be harmful and often leaves believers feeling guilty for “not praying hard enough” or not “having faith” to overcome real battles with mental health.
ON THE OTHER HAND, our current culture is telling us that if we struggle anxiety/depression we just need to accept that it’s just the way you are and live with it, simply learning coping mechanisms. This can also be damaging because it can cause us to take on these mental health issues as part of our identity.
In this episode, Caris Snider, a Christian mental health advocate, discusses what it looks like to battle mental health in partnership with Jesus. She recognizes how real anxiety and depression are, while also expressing what freedom in Christ can look like. If you want to be part of this conversation, listen now!
