On Episode #5 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View WCCW Podcast, Robb Helt and Scotty Wince head back to the Sportatorium in Dallas for the June 5, 1982 episode of World Class Championship Wrestling, as the early pieces of what will become one of the hottest runs in wrestling history continue to slowly come together. The Freebird feud is still down the road, but the boys keep reminding everyone: you have to go through the rain to get to the rainbow.

This week’s show has a little bit of everything that makes early World Class fascinating: Mark Lowrance still settling in, Gary Hart looming over the territory, Kabuki and Magic Dragon bringing mystery and violence, Jose Lothario proudly carrying the Brass Knuckles reputation, Bill Irwin continuing to grow on people whether Robb likes it or not, and Kevin Von Erich making a piece of World Class history by wrestling barefoot on TV for the first time (and apparently liking it).

For fans following the full World Class journey from the beginning, this is one of those episodes where the future starts peeking through.

Episode #110 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View USWA Podcast takes Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel back to the November 30, 1991 episode of USWA Championship Wrestling, and this week the boys are greeted with one of the most questionable “new arrivals” in recent memory: The Warrior — not that Warrior, but the USWA version, who proves that, apparently, you don’t have to be ultimate to be a warrior (even if you use the real Warrior’s image to promote Monday’s show)

Corey Maclin is now firmly in the co-host seat alongside Dave Brown, and the show opens with talk of the USWA’s “open door policy” bringing in new and returning talent. Unfortunately, that open door seems to be letting in just about anybody at this point, including a Warrior knockoff, a surfer Sandman, a “Catman”, a Spirit of America, a Candyman, a Gravedigger, and now the returning Moondogs with Richard Lee!

The big headline this week is the arrival of The Warrior, who squashes The Scorpion in short order and then cuts a promo telling Tony Falk, “You don’t have to be ultimate just to be a warrior.” The problem, of course, is that USWA also flashes a picture of the real Ultimate Warrior during the card rundown, which sends Gene, Josh, and BT into a full discussion of Memphis logic, copycat gimmicks, and whether this is even more ridiculous than the Lord Humongous/Sid/Randy “He-Man” Lewis bait and switch of several weeks ago. The other major story is the return of the Moondogs. Richard Lee brings them back to Memphis, and they waste no time making an impact.

By the end of the episode, Gene, Josh, and BT are fired up about the Moondogs being back, confused by the fake Warrior, entertained by Sandman nearly killing poor T.D. Steel with a kick from the top rope, and still trying to make sense of a USWA that seems to be throwing every gimmick it can find at the wall.

It may not be good wrestling every step of the way (it’s definitely not), but it is absolutely memorable Memphis television worth discussing (or at the very least making fun of).

On Episode #8 of Beyond Wrestling w/ Robb, Robb Helt welcomes Miranda Gordy, daughter of legendary Fabulous Freebird Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy, for a conversation that goes far beyond the ring. Per the norm here on Beyond Wrestling, this episode is not about match results, title histories, or wrestling politics. It is about Miranda the person: the daughter, the animal lover, the gardener, the winery worker, the country girl, the second generation wrestler, and the woman building her own life while carrying one of the most respected last names in wrestling history.

One of the best parts of the conversation is hearing Miranda talk about Terry Gordy as her dad rather than the legendary “Bam Bam” fans remember from Mid-South, World Class, Japan, and the Freebirds. She remembers the small things: him relaxing in his recliner, spending time at home before the next flight, playing around the house, and making the most of the time they had because wrestling kept him on the road so much.

Robb also digs into the Freebird family connection, and Miranda gives the strongest possible answer on a debate that has come up plenty of times on the network: Jimmy Garvin was and is a Freebird! According to Miranda, he had everyone’s blessing not just Michael’s, he was in the Badstreet video, and she has the pictures to back it up. Case closed.

This episode is a great fit for Beyond Wrestling because it gives fans a look at Miranda Gordy away from the ring and away from the shadow of her father’s legacy. She is funny, honest, quick witted, laid back, humble, and clearly proud of where she comes from, but she is also determined to be her own person.

For fans of the Fabulous Freebirds, Terry Gordy, second generation wrestling stories, country life, winery talk, and real conversations that go beyond the usual wrestling interview, this is a damn good one, check it out, then share it with your friends.

On the debut episode of Chewin’ the Fat with Chubby Dudley, Bay Ragni, aka “the Original ECW Original” Chubby Dudley launches a brand new interview series dedicated to the people who helped build the early days of Eastern Championship Wrestling. For the first guest, Chubby sits down with “The Madman from the Badlands” Glen Osbourne for a personal, honest, and nostalgic conversation about the Philadelphia wrestling scene, Tri-State Wrestling, the birth of ECW, and Glen’s long career beyond the extreme spotlight.

Chubby explains that after spending the last year watching through the early ECW television catalog on his React and Chill with Chubby Dudley channel, he realized just how many fans wanted to know more about the people from the Eastern Championship Wrestling era. That makes Glen the perfect first guest, because his story reaches all the way back to the TWA/Ringmasters days and carries through early ECW, ECWA, the independent circuit, WWF tryouts, and more.

One of the strongest parts of the interview is the shared history between Chubby and Glen. This is not a standard “guest comes on and tells stories” episode. These two were there together at the beginning, training in the same circles, working the same early shows, and watching the Philadelphia scene evolve from Tri-State into ECW. That gives the conversation a real reunion feel, with plenty of names, places, and memories that hardcore ECW fans will love.

Glen also comes across as one of the rare wrestling podcast guests who is genuinely at peace with his career. He talks openly about the opportunities he had, the chances he turned down, why the full time national wrestling grind was not for him, and how he measures success differently than just “making it” to WWF or WCW. For Glen, being a working wrestler, earning respect, learning the craft, and getting to share the ring with names he grew up watching meant something.

The ECW discussion is especially fascinating because Glen was there before “Extreme” became the brand. He saw the company when it was still Eastern Championship Wrestling, when the roster was full of local talent, when SportsChannel TV was just getting started, and when Eddie Gilbert’s arrival made everyone realize the operation was getting more serious. He also gives a grounded look at why some of the original crew eventually moved on as the promotion changed direction.

This is a great first episode for Chewin’ the Fat with Chubby Dudley because it sets the mission perfectly: preserving the stories of the people who were there before ECW became a worldwide cult phenomenon. Glen Osbourne’s story is part Philly wrestling history, part early ECW history, and part independent wrestling survival story.

For fans of Eastern Championship Wrestling, Tri-State Wrestling, ECWA, 90s independents, and the real people behind the early ECW footage, this one is absolutely worth chewing on.
