3:05pm- On Friday, the U.S. House of Representative reconvened to decide the next Speaker of the House. On the 12thand 13th ballots, fifteen Republicans who had opposed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) earlier this week changed their vote after McCarthy agreed to several concessions. According to Politico’s reporting, the concessions seem to be minor. Were they enough to justify the holdout? Despite new-found momentum, McCarthy remains several votes short of the Speakership. 

3:15pm- While appearing on Fox News, Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) explained why he now supports Kevin McCarthy after voting against him eleven times earlier this week. 

3:30pm- Zeoli Speaks with Listeners: Assuming McCarthy is ultimately selected as Speaker, were the concessions negotiated by the Freedom Caucus holdouts substantial? Or does the holdout now seem more symbolic than tangible?

4:15pm- During her Friday press conference, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blamed the Trump Administration for the “mess” at the U.S. Southern border. President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit the border this Sunday. According to reporting from The Daily Wire, “Biden is expanding a ‘parole’ program for Venezuelans to include migrants from Nicaragua, Cuba, and Haiti.” His administration “will accept 30,000 people from those countries a month as long as they have family or another tie to the U.S. already.”

4:25pm- Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) says that he has the votes to be confirmed as Speaker of the House. The House is expected to reconvene and hold a fourteenth vote at 10pm ET on Friday.

6:05pm- While speaking with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, investigative journalist Matt Tiabbi stated, “I think we can say pretty conclusively after looking at tens of thousands of emails over the course of these weeks that the government was in the censorship business in a huge way. That is, I think provable now.”

3:05pm- On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representative reconvened to decide the next Speaker of the House. The presumptive next Speaker, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, fell well short of the 218 needed on both the seventh and eighth ballots—garnering fewer votes than he had received on vote one, with 21 defectors. 

3:35pm- Mainstream media continues to insist that the prolonged battle over the House Speakership could permanently damage conservatives. But, as Rich adroitly notes, the Republican Party was literally forged in chaos as they fought to abolish slavery. 

3:50pm- Do the 21 Republican holdouts know something about Kevin McCarthy that we don’t?

4:05pm- Kevin McCarthy appears to suffer defeat in the 9th vote for Speaker of the House. Several Republicans have voted for Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Kevin Hern (R-OK).

4:10pm- Congressman Don Bacon (R-NE) suggested Kevin McCarthy, as well as Republican centrists, may soon be willing to begin negotiating with Democrats to decide the House Speakership. While appearing on Fox News, Democrat Ro Khanna also expressed interest in a bipartisan compromise—however, he stated he would not vote for McCarthy.

5:35pm- While speaking to the press, Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries claimed there are public health “vulnerabilities” that will soon arise without electing a Speaker of the House. 

5:50pm- During Monday Night Football, Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest. While discussing the tragedy on The View, Joy Behar suggested the sport was too dangerous and that only “heterosexual men” support tackle football. 

6:05pm-According to a report from The Daily Caller, several members of Congress “profited from selling defense company stocks, many after voting in favor of sending billions in weapons to Ukraine.”

6:15pm- President Joe Biden announced that he plans to visit the U.S. Southern border. Speaking with members of the press, Biden suggested the surge of migrants at the border has been made worse by Title 42—a Trump-era border policy which is designed to prevent illegal border crossings.

6:20pm- While speaking with The Washington Post, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas conceded that the U.S. immigration system is “fundamentally broken.” 

6:30pm- For the 11th time in 3 days, the House of Representatives will vote for Speakership.

6:35pm- According to The Wall Street Journal editorial board, the College of Psychologists of Ontario is “demanding that [Jordan] Peterson acknowledge he ‘lacked professionalism’ in public statements and undergo a ‘coaching program’ of remedial education.”
