A few years ago, Republican John Atkins was accused of domestic abuse. Delaware Republicans compelled him to resign not only from his committees, but also his House Seat as well. It was their way of telling Delaware that Republicans will not stand for domestic abuse and violence. Now, Delaware Democrats are faced with two members with such accusations. State Senator Darius Brown was arrested for punching a woman in the face at a restaurant and Rep. Andria Bennett was charged with beating the pulp out of her husband's face in a drunken rage. Her husband has since dropped the charges, as often happens in cases of domestic violence.
Removing or suspending them from all of their committees would be a political decision, not a legal one. It's a sign of good faith to the public that the party seriously does not condone domestic violence and abuse. Rick names the Democratic leaders who have chosen not to follow the Republicans' example as Democratic Leadership has decided to reward Bennett with an extra committee and leave Brown on 3 committees.
