(0:00-27:32) The Ride with JMV is rolling on a Tuesday afternoon. John opens the show with the news that Tyrese Haliburton could be back against the Lakers on Thursday night. The Indiana Hoosiers are on the road to take on Maryland tonight in a tough environment. JMV touches on Purdue, their freshman and what makes them ready for big moments in the Big Ten. Kevin Willard says that he thinks Trayce Jackson-Davis is the best player in the country. Just coach speech? JMV discusses the rest of the Indiana roster and finding things to lean on other than TJD. John then sets up the rest of the show, setting the lineup of guests, and talks about Frank Reich’s introductory press conference in Carolina. That leads to a conversation about the extensive Colts head coaching search.
(27:32-45:14) Greg Rakestraw of the ISC Sports Network joins the show to first further the musical education of the listeners before turning his attention to a late tip off for the Indiana Hoosiers this evening. JMV and Rake preview the matchup, talk about IU’s current form and where more 3-point shooting might come from. Then, the conversation turns to the Butler Bulldogs and if this season’s struggles are just about one bad year or a foreshadowing of things to come. What about IUPUI? What is the status of the program right now and what’s the path to get more talent in the building? Including Indiana State, Rake discusses how mid major coaches are finding talent where others aren’t looking. John and Greg conclude with sectional action in high school hoops.
(45:14-48:21) JMV puts the finishing touches on hour one.
(48:21-1:13:52) To kick off the second hour, Jason Belmonte, the No. 1 bowler in the PBA, joins the show to discuss his favorite Australian band before discussing the 2023 U.S. Open happening in Indianapolis at Royal Pin Woodland. Jason discusses how he compares himself to some of the best to ever do it and his place in the history of the game. Belmonte and JMV talk about the growth of the sport, access to bowling information and his parents’ decision to build a bowling alley changing his life. Naturally, the conversation turns to his two-handed approach, it’s origin and other successful players who have gone that route. The conversation concludes with Belmonte’s bowling heroes and a few stories from his time in bowling. Then, John breaks the news of Sean Payton heading to Denver and DeMeco Ryans going to Houston.
(1:13:52-1:29:11) In the middle of the second hour, JMV continues the head coach discussion and a Jim Irsay reaction to a bit done by Joey Mulinaro about the owner and Jeff Saturday. Is there anything anyone can do to pull Irsay out of Saturday’s corner? JMV talks about the idea of a petition for Saturday to not be the head coach and what kind of reaction Irsay might have to it. Should Colts fans take stock in Peyton Manning vouches at this point?
(1:29:11-1:37:35) JMV wraps up the second hour with the Lounge on YouTube and phone calls about the coaching search.
(1:37:35-2:03:38) JMV goes back to the phone lines to kick off the final hour. Colts quarterback is the topic of conversation. Does it make sense to bulk up at other positions this year in the draft and go after a quarterback in 2024? John returns to the newest coaching hire news of the day. With the hiring of Sean Payton and DeMeco Ryans, the Colts and Cardinals are the only two teams left without a head coach. The segment ends with more callers.
(2:03:38-2:22:15) ESPN Front Office Insider Bobby Marks joins the show to discuss the Myles Turner extension and what it means for both him and the Pacers. Can Myles still be traded? Yes, but Bobby says an extension followed by a trade that fast would be unprecedented. Does this outcome workout better for the Pacers than the result had DeAndre Ayton arrived in Indiana over the summer? JMV and Bobby discuss the premise that Indiana is the best fit in the NBA for Myles Turner. Is anyone better for him than Haliburton? Then, the discussion turns to the ultimate value of Haliburton when it times to pay him, what type of movement – if any – the Pacers will have at the deadline and what Buddy Hield is worth. The discussion ends with news and moves from around the league and how the NBA thinks about Trayce Jackson-Davis and Zach Edey.
(2:22:15-2:28:38) JMV wraps up the show with the phone lines.
