May 24, 2023 #13 - Ronnie Dean Horton: Virginia State Police, SWAT, Law Enforcement, Academies, Dispatcher, SRO, Jail, Firefighter, Sheriff Election
In this episode, Ethan and Luke interview Ronnie Dean Horton. They ask him
about how his dreams to be a Virginia State Trooper. He talks about his career
in the Sheriff's Office, his time at the jail, and eventually his time at the
police academy to become a State Trooper. He remarks about his time in the
academy, being promoted to Sergeant, and experiences on the SWAT/Tactical team.
Later in the episode, he discusses working as a School Resource Officer and how
it has changed how he parents. At the end he explains why he has decided to run
for Carroll County Sheriff and what he would like to do in office.

In this episode, Ethan and Luke discuss a niche but rich topic, the $2 Bill.
They discuss everything from the history of the bill, its use, prevalent myths
and superstitions that are commonly held, and even meaningful stories that

a documentary and book, both of which were created by John Bennardo. They also
hope to interview Mr. Bennardo in the coming weeks to do an exclusive episode

In this interview, Ethan and Luke interview Nathan Jones, the school Athletic
Trainer, at a CCHS Cavalier Baseball game! Many times during the episode the
interview is interrupted for Mr. Jones to tend to an athlete or to participate
in the Baseball team's antics. Ethan and Luke agreed to leave these parts in to
demonstrate what Mr. Jones job is like and to extend that experience to the
listener. He also teaches the popular Sports Medicine class. They discuss his
time in high school playing sports and his academics, his time at the
University of Virginia (UVA) where he majored in Kinesiology and then continued
to get his Masters in Athletic Training. Jones remarks on his clinical
experience and working with different sports teams at UVA. After that, he was
an Athletic Trainer at Ferrum College and then came to CCHS. At the end of the
interview they discuss books, advice for younger generations and for youth
wanting to pursue Athletic Training, and the meaning of life.

In this episode, Ethan and Luke interview Honorable Clerk Gerald Goad for the
first thirty minutes. They briefly discuss his childhood, schooling, time at
Wytheville Community College and Virginia Tech. Additionally, they discuss his
musical career, scuba diving hobby, and his advice for younger generations in
general. After that, for the rest of the episode, Clerk Goad gives us a tour of
the facility.
Due to the difficulties of recording on the go, the audio quality may not
always be consistent during the tour, conversely, the interview quality is up
to our normal standard, if not higher. Ethan and Luke ask for the listener's
forgiveness and understanding. However, in the coming weeks there will be a
short video showcasing the visit, so stay tuned for that!

In this episode, Ethan and Luke interview Sheriff Kevin A. Kemp, the incumbent
Sheriff for Carroll County. They talk about early life and how his schooling
was instrumental in developing his work ethic, his time traveling and singing
Southern Gospel music, working at a prison, and then entering the law
enforcement field. They discuss his time as a school resource officer (SRO),
his accomplishments during his first term in office, and K-9 units. Later, the
drug/vaping/nicotine epidemic is tackled, with discourse about why it is such a
tough problem to solve. Additionally, they mention I-77 and highway safety, and
how Deputy Sheriffs can work extra hours patrolling the interstate to keep it
safe. Sheriff Kemp gives insights as to what motivates him to push his staff
and himself every day to keep the county as safe as possible.
