A great guitarist is, to some extent, a subjective appraisal. It may be based on popularity, how many recordings they have made, the ability to play blazing riffs, or how much knowledge of the instrument they have. For me, it is a combination of the above. It is the ability to actively listen to every sound coming out of their instrument and the ability to create the sound that they hear in their heads through their instrument. It is the ability to channel thoughts, feelings, and emotions through sound waves, and cause us to feel the same emotions everytime we hear that song.
