We’re back from an extended spring break! Quarantine had us in desperate need of rest & social (media) distancing.

While we have been social distancing from each other for the most part, we've been continuing to meet each week to record. Yesterday we got together and had a nice catch-up chat— we talk through our own struggles with social media during this pandemic, our strange but oddly wonderful Resurrection Day celebrations, and just in general how we've been feeling throughout all this craziness.

Hey Ladies!

Things are crazy right now. The Coronavirus is spreading quickly & with it comes mass chaos and mass fear.

While it is difficult navigating the unknown, we must always remember that our God is in control. He is good & He is trustworthy & He is not surprised by the Coronavirus.

In times like these, we get the privilege to act on our faith & be an example of trust and peace to others who do not have a hope.

We trust the living God and therefore we are to be as bold as lions (Proverbs 28:1) & unafraid of the future (Proverbs 31), no longer fearing anything that is frightening (1 Peter 3:6). Our hope is secure.

Let us use this time to love our neighbor as best as we can, to spend time in the Word & in prayer, and to rest in God’s wonderful sovereignty. He will make all things new.

The 21st century so far has been marked significantly by the age of the celebrity influencer. It seems like every time we log on to the internet we are bombarded by celebrities telling us what to wear, what to eat, who to vote for, and what to believe.

In today’s episode, we talk through Taylor Swift’s (fairly new) documentary “Miss Americana”— we talk about her career, some allegations she made in the film, and in general, the danger of celebrity influence.

Celebrities are not our moral arbiters, God is. He has given us his word and it is profitable for all things. If we are going to be influenced by anything, let’s be influenced by His word. Let us wear it on our hearts and put it on our doorposts and talk about it with our friends & family.

For today’s episode, we felt like it was important to make a few clarifications about where we stand on certain things. We chose six “non-negotiables” to discuss. Six things that we stand firm on no matter what.

They are foundational and they define how we respond to, think about, and interact with God’s Word & everything around us. These aren’t our only non-negotiables but they are at the top of the list! Just think of it as a bumbling, non-eloquent statement of faith.

Today we talk about the statement: “Your sin patterns aren’t personality traits.” This can be a pretty shocking statement to make in today’s self-care culture as we consistently are told to identify with our sin patterns instead of fleeing from them.

We both have been convicted recently to work on killing particular sin patterns in our lives (anger & anxiety). We have been given a new identity in Christ and are called to imitate him and be doers of his word. While it’s true that some sin patterns may take years (maybe even our whole lives) to kill, it’s just as true that we need to continually view those patterns as just that: sin. Christ’s free gift of salvation means that we are no longer slaves to sin, but slaves of God (Romans 6:22).

Sanctification and sin killing go hand in hand. Luckily God has given us so many resources for the battle: His Spirit which urges us to be more like Him, His Word which speaks life into us and is profitable for all things, and His church, a community of believers bumbling along just like you who are there to pray for you, encourage you, and walk alongside you. 

Let’s be countercultural and say no to the sin that hinders sanctification and yes to the peace that surpasses all understanding.

God has called us wives to joyfully order our homes & serve others. But what happens when ordering doesn’t come naturally & our attitudes are bad? We talk about our struggle to keep up with the housekeeping & to keep up a good attitude while doing it. The temptation to fall into comparison, laziness, & even anger toward our created order is often extremely tantalizing. But we don’t have to fall victim to it every time. God is our Good Shepherd! He is readily available with wisdom, comfort, & discipline (even in the messiest of messes).

The shocking death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna had everyone in America thinking about the fragility of life. 

Any person can experience tragedy at any time. As believers, we are given God's word to prepare us for those times. We have a greater hope than any in times of tragedy: God is good, he is in control, & this is not our home. We can very often be tempted to despair, but our King Jesus has overcome the world.

Lack of daylight got you down? Are you constantly sad and craving a warm bath? You’re not alone. This time of year it is normal to feel a little less energetic & a little more sad than you normally do. And while it is normal, it isn’t an excuse to let your seasonal sadness be lord over your life. Kill your sin, even if that means ditching the “self-care”. Do some real self-care and open up the word of God!

New Year, New Us? How about New Year, same us just with more goals & resolve to make 2020 a great year? That’s it. We LOVE setting goals & working to make our lives healthier, more organized, and more fun.

We also love that Payton is married and we are back to regularly scheduled podcasting. It’s been too long y’all. We hope everyone had a great Christmas season full of family & friends, and that you were reminded of the great love that God lavished on us: Christ died for us & he is coming again.

We are so excited for this new year and all God has in store. 2019 was a year of extreme growth for both of our walks with the Lord. Whatever 2020 holds, our prayer is that He draws us even closer to Him this year.

It's Christmas Eve, and we are finally uploading another episode of the podcast! 'Tis the season to be running behind on everything, amiright? 

Today I'm joined by none other than my awesome Dad, the famous Brad Borders. We chat about fond Christmas memories, celebrating advent, & the hope we have for Jesus' second coming.
