  • The Scottish Fantastic of 'Song of the Stag' with R.M. Brown

In this episode, we’ve invited Ringwood author R.M. Brown to discuss the release of her debut novel, Song of the Stag, a book inspired by a simple idea: What if there was a fantasy about Scottish independence? We talk about her writing journey, favorite characters and scenes, worldbuilding and magic, and more!

A proud Dundonian, Rebecca is an English and Creative Writing alumna and co-founder of the charity Folklore Scotland. Armed with an obscene number of folklore books, she and her husband strive to preserve the tales of the past for a new generation by digitising stories, recording podcasts, and, of course, hunting for fairies.

Order Song of the Stag here! If you get your order now, you will receive a signed first edition copy of the book one week before the official launch.

Song of the Stag will launch on June 27th at 7pm at The Tinsmith in Dundee. The event is free and all are welcome.

Check out Folklore Scotland to see more of Rebecca's work.

  • In Conversation with Lead Editors Megan Gibson and Annika Dahlman

Ever wondered what it's like to work for an indie publishing house? We speak with interns Megan Gibson and Annika Dahlman about their many experiences working at Ringwood, as well as their current responsibilities as lead editors for two upcoming book releases, The World's End Murders: The Inside Story by Tom Wood and Song of the Stag by R. M. Brown. We discuss manuscript submissions, working with authors, publishing timelines, marketing, and so much more!

Tom Wood, author of Ruxton: The First Modern Murder, has written yet another insightful piece of true crime history. The World’s End Murders: The Inside Story is the account of the cold case of the murders of Helen Scott and Christine Eadie in Edinburgh of 1977 and the efforts of the law enforcement officers in bringing the perpetrator to justice. It will be launched on Sunday, June 23rd at Hillhead Library in Glasgow, so keep an eye out for updates about the event and details on pre-ordering.

Song of the Stag is R.M. Brown’s debut novel born of one simple question: what if there was a fantasy book about Scottish Independence? It will be launched on Thursday, June 27th at 7pm at The Tinsmith in Dundee, and you can pre-order it here through the Ringwood website.

  • History, Legend and Invention with L.A. Kristiansen

In this episode we talk with L.A. Kristiansen about her upcoming release, Revenge of the Tyrants, the second book in a series on the Scottish Wars of Independence, which will be launched on Sunday, April 28th at 2pm at Hillhead Library in Glasgow! The event is free and you can grab a copy of Revenge of the Tyrants there.

Born and bred in Glasgow, author L.A. Kristiansen discovered a passion for Scottish History through her enthusiasm for genealogy. In her research, she uncovered close family ties with many of the leaders of the wars of Scottish Independence. The likes of Bishop Wishart, Robert the Bruce, and the fearsome William Wallace are, in fact, woven into her own ancestral tapestry.

During further research and exploration, Lynda discovered how their bravery and courage played a significant part in influencing the events of the 13th and 14th century, and she decided to write about them, interlacing fact and fiction in the lead up to the acknowledgement of Scotland’s sovereignty in 1328, and Bruce’s death in 1329.

Lynda is a writer, and dabbles in IT whilst spending her time in Scotland, France, and Norway, researching the adventures of these characters.

If you missed the chance to pre-order Revenge of the Tyrants and you won't be joining us at the launch, you can order a copy through the Ringwood Publishing website here.

You can also order a copy of the first book in the series, Raise Dragon, here.
