Sid Garza-Hillman is a Small-Stepper. That may seem insignificant, and that's the point. So many insignificant and small steps, incorporated into you life, make a very significant difference.
Sid is the author of Approaching the Natural: A Health Manifesto and Raising Healthy Parents: Small Steps, Less Stress, and a Thriving Family. He graduated from UCLA with a BA in Philosophy, is a public speaker, podcaster (What Sid Thinks Podcast), certified nutritionist, and Small Steps Coach–teaching his unique approach to healthy living at smallsteppers.com. He is the Stanford Inn Eco-Resort's Wellness Programs Director, co-creator with Matt Frazier of Health Made Simple, and Race Director of the sold-out Mendocino Coast 50K trail ultramarathon.
Sid and I connected on his path to becoming a small-stepper (what is this anyway?) and nutritionist. His health and wellness approach is truly remarkable. On the podcast we talk about his approach to nutrition and rating the health of foods, solving stress which resolves stress-eating, parenting children in a healthy way, COVID-19, replacing poor habits with healthy habits, little victories, SHOULD-ing on yourself, dealing with overwhelm easily and keeping things fun, the Mendocino 50 kilometer race he organizes, his next book, and..... home roasting coffee!
This podcast was a blast. We covered a lot and I hope you guys enjoy this episode!

Charlie Engle is an endurance athletic legend. Just Google him.
Charlie was catapulted onto the world's stage after his incredible athletic ability was revealed in the film, Running the Sahara, narrated by Matt Damon. The documentary highlighted his historic, record-setting journey across the world's largest desert, running more than two marathons a day for 111 consecutive days, for a total of 4,500 miles.
Charlie's memoir, Running Man, became a bestseller shortly after it was published in 2016, for good reason! In Running Man, Charlie Engle tells the gripping, surprising, funny, emotional, and inspiring story of his life, detailing his setbacks and struggles - from coping with addiction to serving time in prison - and how he blazed a path to freedom by putting one foot in front of the other. This is a propulsive, raw, and triumphant story about finding the threshold of human endurance - and transcending it. After a decade-long addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol, Charlie Engle hit bottom with a near-fatal six-day binge that ended in a hail of bullets. As Engle got sober on July 23, 1992.
Charlie turned to running, which became his lifeline, his pastime, and his salvation. He began with marathons, and when marathons weren't far enough he began to take on ultramarathons, races that went for 35, 50, and sometimes hundreds of miles, traveling to some of the most unforgiving places on earth to race. He credits a large part of his recovery to the purposeful devotion and emotional release he experiences while running.
Charlie is a dynamic speaker who has enthralled audiences around the world, from keynotes at the Boston Marathon and Google to the National Geographic Society, NATO, the United Nations and the deck of a nuclear-class U.S. Naval aircraft carrier.
One of the most inspiring individuals I have ever had the privilege of meeting and connecting with, I want nothing more than to share this conversation with you all.
If you loved Charlie, reach out to him and tell him how awesome he is and what an inspiration he is.
I encourage you to give the podcast a great rating and share it with at least three people!

Dr. Joel Fuhrman, MD, has more reversals of disease than most any other physician on the planet. Naturally. His guidance and results put him at the pinnacle of the medical profession.
While millions of Americans suffer from heart attacks and strokes, osteoarthritis, diabetes, dementia, cancer, and other chronic illnesses like autoimmune disease, the good news is these diseases can be avoided and even reversed by Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritarian approach. His newest book, Eat for Life demonstrates that nutritional excellence has miraculous benefits; and with its recipes, proves that it can taste phenomenal too. The case histories of his clients in the book and new information about health and nutrition from the medical literature will make you an informed decision maker. This is the gift you have to take and own, yourself.
Dr. Fuhrman is my mentor who turned me towards looking into becoming a lifestyle optimization expert. I credit him for my nutritional approach with his abundant knowledge, generosity in sharing his knowledge and energy, and the time spent interning under his care just before his absolute launch to complete stardom. That being said, his newest book will allow you to sample all there is to know about nutritional wisdom. Teach yourself this way of living and you will be healthier than you ever thought you could be.
