You first heard Sean Spicer on the very first episode of this podcast. Sean has traveled tens of thousands of miles by heel, thumbs, wheels and wit.  By the time he was 30 years old, he had hiked the length of South Korea, hitchhiked across America and somehow along the way managed to serve with the 101st Airborne Division and study philosophy at U.C. Berkeley. Driven by an intense need to redefine the impossible as well as himself, he now resides in his home state of California and is slowly teaching his son how to road trip.
Ten years ago he began a long walk which is chronicled in his new book, “Guerrilla Camping,” which is also being released today. You can find out more at his website, guerrillacamping.net.
You can find the book on Amazon at tinyurl.com/h58q9ko.
A quick programming note: On this episode, Sean was kind enough to grace us with some of his mashup creations, so you'll hear a few of his songs played throughout the episode. You can find him on SoundCloud at soundcloud.com/djs4.

    Back to today's show.
Bryn Greenwood is a fourth-generation Kansan, one of seven sisters, and the daughter of a mostly reformed drug dealer. She earned a MA in Creative Writing and continues to work in academia as an administrator. Her novel “All the Ugly and Wonderful Things” is coming from St. Martin's Press in August. She is also the author of the small press novels “Last Will” and “Lie Lay Lain.” Her stories and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Battered Suitcase, Kansas Quarterly, and Chiron Review. She lives in Lawrence, Kansas, where she is married to an extensive home remodeling project, and is raising a small herd of boxers and hairless cats.
I first became aware of Bryn on Nov. 29, 2015, when she tweeted the following:
“I worked at a #PlannedParenthood clinic in Kansas for 3 years. My coworkers & I were subjected to the following acts of terrorism: Gasoline was poured under our back door & ignited 4 times. Twice while the clinic was occupied, causing patients to be evacuated. Butyric acid (used as a stink bomb) was poured under our doors & into ventilation system so many times I lost count. Clinic evacuated. 2 cherry bombs were left on our doorstep after hours, causing damage & clinic closure. Imagine what it's like going to work after that. We received hundreds of phone calls, threatening to torch our clinic & to kill the "murdering whores" who worked there. 3 times someone drove by at night & shot out our windows. Picketers stood on the sidewalk & harassed employees as we swept up broken glass. Our clinic didn't perform abortions. We did well woman exams, pregnancy tests, dispensed birth control, & treated STIs. Our clinic offered free & low cost services in a low income neighborhood, but every day the "pro-life" movement tried to frighten us. The goal was to make us afraid to come to work, to make us quit, to make us close the clinic. That's terrorism. That's how terrorism works. Anyone who approves of harassing clinics is giving support to terrorism. #StandWithPP At the same time, I volunteered at Dr. George Tiller's abortion clinic. In 1993 he was shot by a "pro-lifer." He came to work the next day. Dr. Tiller kept coming to work after he was shot, because he was a caring man who knew how important his work was. In 2009, Dr. Tiller was murdered in his own church, again by a "pro-lifer." The goal was to scare other doctors who perform abortions. Abortions are still provided in Dr. Tiller's old clinic, because that's how you respond to terrorism. We can't let them win.”
I then stumbled across her January 14 essay for The New York Times titled, “Why I Always Wanted to Be a Secretary,” which you should definitely read.
You can find Bryn on her website at: www.bryngreenwood.com.

Philando Castile was killed by police on video in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. Five police officers were killed and seven were injured by a shooter in Dallas, Texas. You won't hear Michael and I discuss any of these incidents in this episode, but rest assured, the next time he's on we'll get to all of them. Still, this conversation is very relevant.

You first heard from this Scandinavian country on Episode 6 of the podcast. On that episode, I took advantage of a new program called The Swedish Number to call randomly selected Swedes for almost three hours. For more on this program, pause this episode and go back and listen to that episode.
It had been an eventful 10 weeks since the last time I spoke to Sweden, and I decided to call back.
I was shocked. I hadn't considered the fact that the window had closed. So, I decided to call the Swedish Tourist Association, who had introduced the Swedish Number in the first place. I found the phone number of Jenny Engström, their communications manager, and dialed it to find out what was going on.
Two hours later, I called back. On a side note, I incorrectly told Jenny the previous Swedish episode was Episode 4 instead of Episode 6. And to my great shame I cited the wrong Bruce Willis movie. It was “The Fifth Element,” not “Die Hard.” My apologies.

Here is how Rick Friday describes himself on his website, fridaycartoons.com:
“I grew up on a 300 acre farm in Southern Iowa during a period in which our nation was at war. Times may have been difficult, but Sis and I didn’t know it. The country life seemed to protect us from the world. We didn’t want for much and created our own entertainment. Soda pop was our reward for being good kids, so once in a while Sis and I would slide the pitcher of sweet tea aside and share a bottle of pop. My mother says that I began drawing cartoon characters on my toy box at age 4. A few years later, I started drawing cartoons and selling them to the kids on the school bus for nickels and dimes. When our farm chores were done Sis and I would walk two miles to town and spend the cartoon money on orange pop and Chick-O-Sticks. I had enough cartoon money for Sis and I to each have our own bottle of pop. I was an average student, however, there were times I was scolded for doodling on my homework. 'He needs to focus more!' my teachers would say. I was voted class clown by my peers and I turned down an art scholarship in 1978, I thought I would work and eventually farm. Under my picture it read: 'What are your future plans?' My answer was, 'Undecided.' I was successful with my plans, I am still 'Undecided.' My first cartoon was published in a local paper in 1993. I traded one cartoon per week for a subscription to the paper. Soon I was drawing for three papers and one magazine. The mailbox was always full of newspapers. In 1995, Farm News out of Fort Dodge, Iowa contacted me and offered me a position as their editorial cartoonist. They were delighted to find a farmer who could draw cartoons. Twenty-one years later, the publication cut me loose for offending Big AG Biz and once again I am drawing on toy boxes. I am optimistic and hope that someday I will be remembered as 'Author Unknown.'”
You can view the cartoon that caused the stir on Rick's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/rick.friday.3. You can also follow him on Twitter at www.twitter.com/friday_rick.
Finally, I'd like to extend an open invitation to Farm News and the seed dealer who was offended by Rick's cartoon. You're welcome to come on the podcast and give your sides of the story any time.

On this, our 14th episode, our guests are Brandon Chapman and Josh Sigler of the Sounding Off w/ Chap & Sig podcast. This is a milestone as it's the first episode recorded live with two guests.
But before we get to that, I need to let you know how you can support the show. I love presenting you this podcast every week. Thank you so much for listening. If you want to help the podcast continue on the journey of more success, there are a few very simple things you can do.

Now, on to today's show. This is a companion piece to the four most recent episodes of the Sounding Off w/ Chap & Sig podcast. They gave shout outs on Episodes 19, 20 and 22, and were kind enough to have me as a guest on Episode 21.
Brandon Chapman, “Chap,” was born, raised and currently resides in Peru, Indiana. He grew up a dedicated and die hard Hoosier basketball fan. He graduated from Peru High School and attended Manchester College for one year. In the one year, he finally found love. That is where he met his Hetero life partner, Sig. He currently is a senior at IUK pursuing a degree in communications. He plans to take over the world with his podcast so him and Sig can sit on an island and count their money. He is married (not to Sig) and has two dogs, Milo and Lucy.
Josh Sigler, “Sig,” is a fairly accomplished dude who doesn't like to take himself very seriously. The Tipton, Indiana native graduated from Manchester University with a degree in Media Studies in 2006, and spent 10 years as a journalist before opting to leave the business for greener pastures. The multi-award-winning reporter was honored by the Hoosier State Press Association in 2015 as producing the top sports feature series, where he covered several angles of how concussion knowledge has evolved over time, the attitudes toward head trauma, and the viewpoints of local coaches, athletes, trainers and doctors on the subject.
One final note, if you've ever listened to Sounding Off w/ Chap & Sig, you'll know the Parental Advisory label on their podcast is well-earned. As such, this episode contains explicit language.
And now, on to the show.
