Detroit Lions fans were going nuts, screaming and chanting, trying to blow the roof off Ford Field. It was loud and electric and, well, just so much dang fun.

“Detroit feels it,” Aidan Hutchinson said after the Lions’ 34-23 victory Sunday over the Minnesota Vikings. “They feel we're coming along right now; and we're gonna make this playoff push at the end and do everything we can to get in, and it takes one game at a time.”

Yes, everybody is feelin’ it. Because this feels so different. The vibe around the Lions is unmistakable — this team that has won five of six games to make it to 6-7.

I’ve dinged Jared Goff for his crucial mistakes in crunch time in some of the Lions’ losses this season, so it’s only right to give him credit for delivering with the game on the line Sunday. Goff made a dart of a throw to Tom Kennedy on third-and-8 with a linebacker in his face and just over 3 minutes to play on the go-ahead touchdown drive. He was far from perfect. He got bailed out by a penalty away from the play on a bad interception and made a poor throw to an open Shane Zylstra on third-and-12 in the second half. But Goff finished a respectable 19 of 26 passing for 236 yards and made a key play with his feet, sidestepping a sack and scrambling for a first down on the Lions’ first touchdown drive of the second half. Grade: B-minus

Republicans slam Debbie Stabenow for comments on electric vehicles, gas prices



Republicans are calling U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., “out of touch” for recent comments about how she’s no longer subjected to high gas prices now that she owns an electric vehicle. Stabenow made similar comments at last week’s Mackinac Policy Conference in Michigan, hinting at the gesture she gives gas stations when she drives by. “As somebody who just bought my first electric vehicle, I’m driving by the pump,” Stabenow said. “And I won’t tell you the motion I’m making when I drive by.”

As Michiganders fret over gas prices, Whitmer noncommittal on solutions

Michigan gas prices are up 74 cents per gallon in the past month and more than $1.74 higher than this time last year, according to AAA.



Politicians meeting in Michigan this week have varying thoughts on solutions.



Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow took questions about the issue during a news conference at the Mackinac Policy Conference on Wednesday, June 1.



“I do think that some sort of a gas tax holiday, sales tax, could be helpful to people who are struggling,” Whitmer said. “I’ve been very clear, though; I’m not interested in theater.”



Michigan Republicans passed a plan in the Senate last week that would suspend the state’s 27.2-cent-per-gallon gas tax and 6% sales tax on gas from June 15 to Sept. 15. At current prices, it would temporarily drop the price of gas about 50 cents per gallon, assuming gas stations pass on the cost savings.

Be yourself regardless of what the cynics and doubters say.. Nobody wants to say this but the process of getting your license back after 2 duis should be equal to getting an AR15. That doesn’t mean you can’t have it.. it means you need to prove your sane.

General manager Brad Holmes went into the 2022 NFL draft determined to find a “game changer” and came away with two players who fit that bill. This is why I believe the Detroit Lions had one of the best draft hauls in the league.

I’m asked to grade the Lions’ picks every year after the draft. It’s a silly exercise in some ways, passing judgment on players who have not played a down in the NFL and who are still in the developmental stage of their careers, and for that reason I’ve always tried to make my grade more about how the Lions use the draft capital they have and less about the talent the acquire.

Where players go from here is largely up to them, and the path they’re on won’t be evident for another year or two at the least.
