Julia Caruana is the owner of and primary supervisor at Bethesda Counseling Services in Bethesda, MD. She was born and raised in Madrid, Spain and has been living in the US since 2006. Almost 20 years later, she is a mom of 4, married for almost 10 years and is a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist, although she retired as a therapist a year ago and now devotes her time to running her group practice. She has a wonderful team of 20 therapists that offer individual and family therapy to couples, children and families.

Today I sit down with Eric W. Brown. Eric is a drummer, audio designer and award-winning video game composer currently based in Denver, CO. He has been touring the world as a member of various bands for over 14 years. He is the full-time drummer of Nekrogoblikon, Swashbuckle and Wizardthrone, and also holds down a full-time position as composer and audio director at Sabotage Studio, an independent game studio from Québec City, Canada. Their first project The Messenger released in 2018, and their current project Sea Of Stars raised over $1.6 million CAD in the midst of a pandemic, making history as one of the most successful Canadian video game Kickstarter campaigns of all time…and oh yea, Sea of Stars gets released on all platforms August 29th. Dr. Julie Bindeman graduated from the George Washington University and is the co-owner of Integrative Therapy of Greater Washington in Rockville, Maryland. Her specialty is in the field of Reproductive Psychology, where she actively writes, lectures, and presents.  She is a consultant in training in EMDR through EMDRIA. She has served on several committees within the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and was just elected to its Executive Committee.  She served as a former Board Member of the Maryland Psychological Association for over 10 years. Dr. Bindeman is a member of multiple organizations focused on Maternal and Reproductive Mental Health and was appointed by the Governor of Maryland to serve on the Maternal Mental Health Task Force. She was recently awarded the Karl Heiser Award for her legislative efforts on behalf of psychology. Dr. Bindeman has published several chapters and articles pertaining to Reproductive Psychology.

Gerhard Grieb was born into a refugee family from Eastern Europe, emigrating into Germany in 1946, the year he was born, and into the US in 1956. After completing public education in the Philadelphia suburbs, he attended college for 2 years when he was drafted into the Army. He served 1 year in Vietnam and then returned to finish his BA. He went on to get a Master's at U of Md. and dropped out of the PhD program in 1977 to begin working for the Postal Service. He served as VP and editor of the Letter Carrier's local until then switched to become an Electronic Technician. He was married in 1970, divorced in 1980 from his first wife, then remarried in 1982 to the present. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 and retired at that time. He lived in Takoma Park from 1973 until 1987 and has lived in Sandy Spring since.

"We were forced out of the area under pressure and set up a perimeter around the area and spent the night there as artillery pounded the area through- out  the  night.  As a fighterbomber flew over the area at dawn, a sole  machine-gunner opened up on it.  The rest of the unit, to our surprise, had managed to slip away during the night, under cover of the nipa palms which hung over the river to their back.  When we swept through the abandoned camp we found that the dead we had seen there the previous day had been buried by their comrades, despite the massive artillery fire of the night. The Fall Mental Health Hiking Group will explore the gifts and the challenges of the transition to the fall season. We will learn from nature and explore the tensions of the season through hiking coupled with meaningful connection to one's self and to others. Each hike will provide a respite from the feeling of always being ‘switched-on’, helping to decrease symptoms related to anxiety and depression.

WHEN: 9:00-10:30 am, 90 minutes (Sundays- September 10, 17, 24 and October 1) Participants are asked to commit to at least 3 weeks if possible.

WHERE: Locations in Rock Creek Park (DC side)

FEE: $320 for the series; $100 must be paid in advance to secure your spot.
