  • What Can Dogs teach Us About Entrepreneurship? To Be Intuitive!
My family and I had to put our dog, Daisy, to sleep last week. My heart still hurts and I'm thinking it is going to take me months to get over the loss. Daisy was in our lives for 11 years. For 11 years she was by my side. When I worked from home she was by my feet as I sat at my desk. Every time I got up, she got up to follow me to be sure she didn't miss out on what I was doing. She was our protector, our comforter, our source of laughs and love. Our constant. She was intuitive. When one of us had a bad day, were sick, or anything was off, she spent her time by that person's side. Be Intuitive As business owners, we can learn from our four-legged family members. We must be intuitive. We have to be able to be instinctive with the needs of our target audience. This is multifold. How to Be Intuitive Know Your Target Audience First: We must know the details of our ideal avatar or ideal client. To define your ideal client, answer the following questions: How old are they? What is their gender? Are they parents? What type of business do they have? A service-based business or a product or store front? What problems do they need you to solve? Do they appreciate quality? Are they willing to invest in their business and themselves? Do they appreciate health and wellness? Perhaps you work with a faith-based population? What is the size of their business? 1 to 10 people, 11 to 40 people, a large business? Are they tech savvy? Is this their first time in business or are they on their second career? Where do they live? Do they have an online business? Are they coffee drinkers? Do they appreciate fine dining and nice wine? You want to define the details of your ideal client so that you know specifically who you want to reach and what you need to anticipate as far as their needs go. You have complete clarity on who your avatar is and the problem they need you to solve for them. Know the Problems Your Target Audience Needs Solved Which leads us to the second factor: We must know the problems they need solved and how we can solve them. What are their pain points? You may think you solve problem X, but your customer may have problem X along with problems Y and Z. You need to be able to identify the additional problems and offer additional solutions. If you yourself can't solve the additional problems, who do you have in your network that can solve the problems. In walks community. If you remember from episode 6 I talked about the 5 C's of personal branding. Clarity was the first C and Community is the 5th C. We often think about our community as those we want to reach and have hire us, but our community is also those in our network who support us and who can and will collaborate with us. My Business as an Example As I was working with headshot and branding photography clients, I noticed the lack of knowledge about building a brand. People didn't know how to use the pictures I was creating for them. They didn't even know about SEO for their website, they didn't have captivating copy and it certainly wasn't converting. Most often, they didn't know how to use social media to market their business. How could they use social media even if they did know how to because they didn't have a brand to market. That is why I created The Brand Marketing Insider Program and why I have a team of experts to work with. I am not a copywriter. Website design is not in my wheelhouse, nor is graphic design, and I am not a social media manager or videographer. The Importance of Collaboration As I worked with my clients and watched them navigate the process of getting quotes from 3 or 4 different types of businesses and multiple quotes within each business segment, just to have a website created, I saw the overwhelm. When they finally made their selections of people to work with, they were having to spend hours coordinating the efforts and getting materials to the other experts. They were spending hours and days feeling overwhelmed, the process took longer than necessary, mistakes were happening left and right, and costs were exceeding expectations. Time and money were wasted. And at the end of the day, going with the least expensive vendor resulted in poor quality and lack of service. So, what did I do, I contacted the people in my community who I trusted, and asked them to join me and I built a remarkable program that is building brands for success? If you are an entrepreneur, ask yourself what your clients need? Learn to listen closely and anticipate the next need they will have. Become the Authority Maybe you're a copywriter, think about what services you can provide: Email marketing campaigns Bios LinkedIn profiles Resumes Website copy that is SEO ready Blog posts Become the authority in your niche and anticipate your client's additional needs. Especially now, people are losing their jobs left and right and are going to need help with all of these things as they either start a business or try to get another job. If you are doing website copy, you can anticipate that your client will need blog posts. You become their content creator for blogs on their website. Once you create blog posts for them, you know they can use the blog post content for email marketing, present this to them and become their go to for that as well. It is about being intuitive and anticipating forthcoming needs. And don't worry about being an expert for every task. If you have a Google search bar, you can learn, fine tune your skills and become an expert. Or, bring on a community member to collaborate. If you are a social media manager and your client is in a service industry you see the need for content that connects. Collaborate with the photographer in your community for some custom branded photography that will help your client stand out in the see of online noise. Stay Front of Mind If you are struggling with identifying your client's additional needs and ways you can help them, use tools like "Answer the Public" and find the questions your ideal clients are asking that fall within your niche. Expand your knowledge in each area and as you work with clients, address their needs with a solution to solidify your expertise and authority status within your niche. Begin to anticipate the needs of your target audience and proactively communicate your strategies for providing the service. Use email marketing and social media content creation to communicate this and to stay front of mind. As you present content, your ideal audience will think, oh wow, I have that same question, that same problem, and I'm going to reach out and have Julie solve it for me. We have so many tools at our fingertips that you have no excuse to not be intuitive for your clients and standout as providing the highest quality of services. • It's Time to Start Podcast, but Where Do You Begin? Jeanette Tapley shares her atypical journey to becoming a podcast host and manager
This podcaster and entrepreneur has had anything but a typical journey. Jeanette Tapley is a mom to three, wife to Jesse and part of an ASL speaking family because their daughter, who was adopted from Africa, is deaf. After being a stay at home mom for years, Jeanette started her podcast to help people. Her clients quite often become her friends. It's a blessing to be able to bond and connect with clients. Check out episode 9 for the 5 C's of personal branding…Jeanette loved this episode. Jeanette was married at 18. She was in love, knew Jesse was "the one" and was saving herself for marriage. He proposed after the homecoming dance. Sounds crazy, right? In Alaska, where Jeanette grew up it was more common for people to get married young. She looks back at it now and laughs because there was no in-between. She was so young and skipped a huge transformative time in her life. So why did she marry so young? She was saving herself for marriage and the sooner she got married the sooner she could have sex! Insert laughter…there was a lot of it during this episode. Jeanette and Jessie have had to grow up together and have had to put in a lot of work to make the marriage a success. They've both had to sacrifice but have also found common ground and been supportive of each other to engage with their own friends. Marriage is one of the hardest jobs and it's similar to entrepreneurship because it takes a lot of grit and work to be successful at it. I asked Jeanette about how she is communicating with her kids so that they aren't jumping into relationships so young and before they are really ready. Jeanette's theory is that it's important for them to learn how to date, how to treat others and how learn how they themselves want to be treated. It's about finding a balance and teaching the kids that they have control over their body, but guiding them to remember that their body is also the Lords so they have to be respectful of it. Jeanette now highly recommends that kids do at least one year of college so that they can find themselves. It's such a transition and opportunity to grow. The important thing is to communicate with the kids and keep the communication line open. She started her journey for the second phase by learning to blog. She started her blog and then her podcast. She taught herself how to edit podcasts, mix the episodes, etc. She wrote and recorded until she was ready to publish her first interview. It took a lot of courage to step out and invite people to be guests on her podcast. It's so important to have someone believe in you to help give you the courage to do what you dream of doing. She is now that person for her clients. On her podcast she interviews others and shares their stories through conversation and in her course she supports and builds people up as they pursue their dreams. When you are contemplating starting podcast, you have to be sure you know your audience and what they want to here. You have to think of listeners when starting a podcast. Use your brand name that people can find you. You want to be searchable. You want consistency and searchability. Podcasting helps with your personal brand development because it helps you pass the know, like and trust factor. Podcasting is a great way for people to get to know you and learn more about you and your business. Jeanette's thoughts on what you need to start a podcast: to start a podcast you need a good to do list, a good microphone and a great idea! • It's Time to Stop Making Excuses and Just Do the Thing...For Mom's Sake
Mother's Day is just around the corner. I want to take this moment to recognize all of the moms listening and encourage you to just do it, do the thing you've been putting off because you're afraid or don't know where to begin. This episode is dedicated to you, the strong women of the world. I've had a lot of women in my life over the years who have inspired me, introduced me to the world, taught me to work hard, and so much more. My mom and sisters as my biggest fans and support system. Until a couple of weeks ago, I still had my grandmother with me. I have so many friends who have been guiding stars and pillars to lean on. Some of the qualities these women have taught me include: Grace Compassion Empathy Action Dedication Resilience Faith Confidence Trust Forgiveness Adventure Love Kindness Acceptance Curiosity And the list goes on. The Most Important Gift But the best of all is that they've taught me to believe in myself and believe in the gifts I've been given. I want to be that woman for all of you! I want to encourage you, guide you, mentor you, and support you. You may be sitting at home doubting your gifts or the direction your life is going. I know this because I've been there plenty of times. But I want you to remember that we all have gifts. And especially right now, in this time of uncertainty as we move through life in a global pandemic, I want you to remember, that you are special. You have unique gifts and the world needs those gifts. There are people out there that are just waiting for you to show up, be their superhero and solve the problem they have that only you can solve. If you have been contemplating starting a side gig, if you are considering entrepreneurship, if being laid off from your job or anticipating the lay-off has you thinking about starting a new endeavor, or you simply want to rebrand your business, do it now! Don't hesitate, Just Do It. Get out of your own way and fall back on those women in your life who won't let you sit on the sidelines. Reach out to the women you know will push you to do what you're meant to do and will support you along the way. I am telling you the world needs your gifts and they need you to share them. Stop Hiding Don't hide. You are meant to serve others and if you aren't putting yourself, your energy and your gifts out into the world you are doing a disservice to all those people who you, and only you, can solve a problem for. You might be looking around on the internet and seeing that other people have already created what you want to create. Someone else has already started a company in the area of your niche. So, what! Those people are serving other people, not your people. There is enough to go around! At this time, and going forward as we rebuild post the pandemic, there are going to be opportunities. Yes, there will be business opportunities, and opportunities to make money, maybe even a lot of money, but what there will mostly be is opportunities to share your expertise and provide value to others. The more we put ourselves out into the world and let people know what we do and who we serve, the better the world is going to be. And think of it this way. If you don't act, you don't show up, you won't be front of mind, the people who need you won't find you, you'll never know if you and your idea could have been a success. If Do It, God will Equip You You don't want to live a life of regret you want to live a life of purpose. And that purpose is calling you! God is calling you! I can assure you, that he doesn't call the equipped, he equips the called. He will be right alongside you and give you every tool and every person you need in your life to do what it is you are meant to do. So, in honor of Mothers' Day and the women who have dedicated their lives and careers to supporting others, raising strong, confident women, and building each other up, get out there and do your thing! And remember, I am here to cheer you on, to build you up, to help you do your thing, whatever that thing may be! Record Your Questions If you have questions for me, head over to my website, www.robyngrahamphotography.com/the-second-phase-podcastand record your question. I will answer your questions in future episodes of the podcast and feature you and your business. Think of it as free marketing, but most importantly, a chance to learn and a chance to help someone else who has the same question. Stay well and just do it! • Want to Live a Life of No Regret: Jordan Gross Shares How to Live a Meaningful and Purposeful Life with No Regrets
Jordan is a 25-year-old corporate refuge! He left corporate to follow his curiosity and passion. Using his idea of a Cloud Nine life, he is a trailblazer for positive change and optimism, sharing the belief that our daily actions can help us overcome stress and anxiety. The First Phase Jordan's first phase was going through the motions, running on the hamster wheel of get good grades, play sports, go to a good college, get good internships, get a good job and make money. Basically, Jordan was following what others thought his path should be. The Second Phase Jordan is spending is second phase trailblazing a path for others to think about personal development in a new way. By using fictional storytelling, Jordan writes books, coaches and speaks about how to live our lives on cloud nine! Cloud Nine Don't worry, we are not going to get all dreamy on you. Jordan uses the term cloud nine to refer to living a positive fulfilling life of purpose. His most recent book, "The Journey to Cloud Nine" is a fictional story about a man who made choices in his life and at 60 years of age, he begins to see that if only he'd made other decisions, he could have been living on cloud nine instead of living alone and suffering with depression. It's Never Too Early We focus on it never being too late to start something new. But in this episode, we are really looking at it's never too early to start the second phase. Passion doesn't always mean purpose. If you are not being fulfilled, it's time to make a change and move on to the next phase. Jordan began his second phase by writing a book. The book led to speaking engagements, a TEDx Talk, and a podcast. His second book was published in February 2020 and his third book will be published in the Spring of 2021. Not everyone finds their gifts so early. But it didn't happen for Jordan overnight. It took a lot of exploration of his curiosity. The important thing to note is that is a matter of optimizing your exploration of curiosity to find your passion and ultimate purpose and finding the cloud nine. Are you a Pilot, Co-Pilot or the Passenger? The passenger The passenger let's societal expectations navigate their path for them. They tend to follow the recommendations of others. The Pilot The pilot is the person that takes control of their journey. They follow their gut, their heart, their intuition. Live and learn through the experience. Action brings a lot of clarity. The Co-Pilot The co-pilot provides the perspective that we don't have to go through the journey alone. They don't take control but provide the right recommendations and guidance. It's really hard to go about any journey alone. The co-pilot serves as the companion on the journey. Favorite quote "Somebody once told me that definition of hell: On my last day on this earth, the person who I became will meet the person I could have become, and those two people are total strangers." "But somebody also once told me the definition of heaven: On my last day on this earth, the person who I became will meet the person I could have become, and those two people are identical twins." – Ed Mylett In making decisions, you want to minimize the gap between who you became and who you could have become. In every moment, in every choice, you are making the choice that is going to minimize regret. Gut, intuition, and feel are so important for making decisions. You can measure character of a person by the choices they make. There is never a right or wrong choice but a right or wrong way to view the choice you made. The approach taken for making the decision is what is important to ensure you aren't going to look back and regret that decision. Fully immerse yourself in the decision and be totally content with the decision that you made. About Jerry Jerry is the main character, a fictional character in "The Journey to Cloud Nine". Jerry's life was being dictated for him and is who Jordan is warning himself not to become. It's very easy to let others dictate our life choices. Before you can make decisions for yourself and gain the support of others, you have to do the work to evaluate the decision and know you are on the right path. When people see that you've done your work and know the value within your decision, they will be more apt to accept it and support you. You have to be your own co-pilot first. Identify Your Co-Pilots Know who respects you and the depth of your ability to make decisions for yourself. It comes back to logic versus intuition. You have to take a step back and evaluate the importance of having what you need versus doing something that you will want to do. It really comes down to communication and being real and raw and honest when telling people what you want to do or need to do. Human Connection As humans we need social contact. No matter how shy or introverted you are, having a couple of key people to be yourself with is important for self-fulfillment. Connections add value to your life, but you also add value to their life. Our daily actions can help overcome stress and anxiety. Making connections and building relationships can help with decreasing the stress and anxiety too. JERI Jordan uses his JERI method to write his books. It changes the perspective of reading self-help books. J – It's about the journey, not the destination E – The emotional connection with the characters R – Reducing the stress I – Imagitivetation – imagination + creativity + interpretation + implementation About Jordan Jordan Gross is a corporate refugee turned trailblazer for positive change and optimism, sharing the belief that our daily actions can help us overcome stress and anxiety. • Want to Control What Others Think, Say and Feel About Your Brand, Start Doing PR!
Public relations (PR) is the one of the best ways to build your brand and get the word out about your business.  PR is the art of convincing an audience, outside of your normal circle of influence, to promote your idea, purchase your product, support your position or recognize you as an expert.  It can include press releases, blog posts, and appearances on podcasts.   It is not advertising.
It is how you want people to think, feel and talk about your brand.
    And, it can be FREE!

  • Want to Control What Others Think, Say and Feel About Your Brand, Start Doing PR!
Realizing that small business owners and entrepreneurs needed help to share their message and passions with the world, KJ Blattenbauer started her PR agency. She found the pain point and knew she had the solution to the problem. Ultimately, the heart of entrepreneurship. What is PR? Public relations (PR) is the one of the best ways to build your brand and get the word out about your business. PR is the art of convincing an audience, outside of your normal circle of influence, to promote your idea, purchase your product, support your position or recognize you as an expert. It can include press releases, blog posts, and appearances on podcasts. It is not advertising. Any time someone is talking about you, it's a good thing. It's can be very inexpensive or have no cost at all, and you can control the narrative. It is how you want people to think, feel and talk about your brand. Make people want to be a part of what you are doing! Where to start? Key message flushed out into an elevator speech! What are your key messages? What do you want people to say about you and your business to others? How do you explain what you do? The more you repeat your key messaging the more it will be repeated by others and the more your message will spread. You need 3 to 4, really 3, key messages that people can take away from every post, profile, bio or interview you do. This will help everyone understand exactly what you do, who you serve and the problem you solve through your business. You need to be able to tell everyone, in 30 seconds, who you are and what you do! This becomes your elevator speech. Ideal Audience Who is your target audience? Niche down to identify them. What are they reading, watching, and listening to? Whether you like them or not, if your target audience is paying attention to them, you need to be putting your message in them. What media outlets do they pay attention to? Make a media list. If you audience listens to podcasts, you want to focus on podcasts. What's the Beat? Once you know the media outlets, research what they are covering. Really dig deep to identify what they write or speak about and create messaging specifically for your brand around that. Be sure to personalize your message. Know their recent publications and then include them in the pitch. Include three topics or tips that you can share. Use gratitude at the end of your pitch! And, include your phone number, email, website and maybe, if you feel sassy, your Instagram account. Do not include a photo or attachments to the email. Have a plan in place to spread the word about your service or product. Don't try to be everywhere for everyone because you will end up speaking to no one. Follow Up You will never get a 100% response rate with PR. But that doesn't mean you should give up. Do the follow up because people miss things in their email inbox. The only bad answer is a maybe. If someone says no, that is their answer. If they say yes, awesome! But not hearing from someone is frustrating. Pitch and follow up! Media Kit A media kit is like a resume for your brand. It includes your bio, high level overview of your brand, a few images so that people can be familiar with you and what you do. Include stats and figures about your business. 5 P's Of PR Position - Clearly communicate your value proposition. Key messages. Plan - Lay out a strategic plan and stick to it. Promote - Day in and day out promote yourself. You need approximately 14 touches to be seen and have people purchase from you. Persevere - It can be a grind and discouraging. You will hear no. You have to keep at it! Publicize - Once you have secured press, promote it everywhere, social media, blog, media page, etc. This validates you as an expert. Every day for two weeks, share the interview or media piece. Think of media interviews as a gift to share your message. It's common courtesy to thank them and share the interview. How to Be a Media Darling KJ's book. Available on Amazon and on her website. PR is free. There is so much value and you don't have to pay for it! PR has more weight than an ad and it's free. Media page Include your bio, the bio that you want people to use if you are a guest on a podcast, or part of an article. Short, succinct bio. Have three images of yourself that people can take and use right away. List all of the places you have appeared. Include the means of contact. If you have a PR person, include their name. If you are the contact, have your contact information there. Include whether or not you are willing to travel for speaking engagements. It is a must have page on your website. Use HARO Answer the questions and have a chance at publication. It's a great way to get your name out there and to present yourself as an expert and authority in your niche. Again, it's free press. Vieve and Jo KJ's dress line. Dresses for all ages and shapes. Fun summer styles and colors! The company is named after her mother and grandmother and the styles are named after women who have inspired her and made her the woman she is now. Dress for day to night with only needing to change the accessories!
