  • How Can Your Business Survive The Economic Stand Still Of Corona Virus?
Jennie Schottmiller is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Pennsylvania. She operates a private practice in the suburbs of Philadelphia. In 2007, Jennie left the accounting world after personal events required focusing on health and family. She pursued helping couples and families and became a therapist in 2010. She opened her private practice in 2016 and came to realize that many of her peers in private practice struggled with accounting, tax, budgeting and cash management issues. Jennie now runs a thriving coaching business, Simple Profit. Simple Profit offers free resources as well as coaching and educational courses to support and empower small business owners." I had to close my business because of Corona Virus, now what? First and foremost. Don't panic! Do a thorough assessment of your finances, business and personal. Evaluate which bills are due immediately, which can wait. Do you have loans that are on forbearance? One of the most difficult things to do is make a decision in a time of crisis. When our emotions are higher, we have less access to the frontal lobe of our brain, the part that makes decisions. We are more in instinct mode. When we do an assessment, more energy is in the frontal lobe to make better decisions. Overview of Three Programs within the Cares Act Cares Act The goal of the Cares Act is to keep people being paid and employed even if they aren't working. This will keep businesses going and once the pandemic ends, businesses will be able to open again without having lost rental space, etc. Another goal is to keep people housed, safe and fed during this time. Unemployment If you had to shutter your business and haven't been able to pay employees, you should direct them to unemployment. The problem is that the unemployment offices are overwhelmed. Unemployment was, for the first time opened up to self-employed people. Because of the new processes and systems needed for the additional offerings things are back logged. Partial unemployment is another option for business owners and their employees while still working. Not every state has this, but the government is asking that all states offer it. SBA Disaster loans (EIDL Loans and Grants) EIDL = Economic Injury Disaster Loan There are two types of disasters that fall into this category. Tornado or natural disaster Economic Injury The EIDL is a one-thousand-dollar grant per employee. They are only looking at your business earnings, not your entire financial status. Meaning, if your spouse is working and providing for the family but you are a business owner, you are eligible. PPP Paycheck Protection Program These loans go through banks. Certain banks will only work with you if you have a business account and a business banking relationship. Some banks are limited with what they can loan. In addition, the banks are confused about the rules of the loans. This loan looks at payroll costs including employer benefits. For self-employed people it looks at net earnings. The government wants the majority of this money to go to employees. Likewise, another requirement is that you maintain your employees. Even if the employee isn't working, you are paying them and keeping them on as employees. If the money is used as agreed to for the business, the loan will be forgiven. All businesses regardless of type, can apply for EIDL or PPP program. If you have employees, you could apply as of April 3rd. If you do not have employees, you can apply April 10th. • Feeling stuck? Need Clarity? Me too!
Since the advent of Covid 19 my photography business is non-existent! As a personal branding expert, things have also been super quiet. So what's a girl to do?
Well, I hired a clarity coach and in this episode I share my journey with reengineering my business. I am reengineering my business so that I never have to experience a time where I have zero clients, zero income and zero revenue.
Through prayer and a God Wink I found the clarity I needed!

  • Feeling stuck? Need Clarity? Me too!
Business Stinks! Life is better than perfect! Kind of like finished is better than perfect. Do you believe me? I understand if you don't because I didn't used to believe this either. But then I read that perfectionism is not the same thing as striving to be your best, a quote from the brilliant Brene Brown. So, friends, let me tell you about something I realized this week and had to use courage to address. The Pandemic is Hitting Home Since the advent of Covid 19 my photography business stinks! It has been non-existent. I can't see clients and without being face to face I simply can't take pictures of people and…as much as I'd like to think professional headshots and personal branding photography are essential, my business is not essential the way food and medical treatment are essential. As a personal branding expert, things have also been super quiet. Yes, I have had great success with The Brand Insider Program and successfully branded and launched several businesses. But people aren't willing to invest in themselves and businesses right now with all of the unknowns. Feeling Lost As a result, I've been feeling a bit lost. Questioning my messaging, questioning the direction of my business and brand. And questioning how I can best communicate what I do and how I can serve people when Covid 19 passes. I needed help with redirecting my messaging so that people fully understand what I can help them with, how I can serve them and how I can make a difference for them by solving a problem they have. I felt a nudge to ask questions and seek advice. I prayed about it. Several people presented themselves to me that I could have hired or worked with, but something just didn't feel right. I had doubts. A God Wink I prayed about it some more. Being patient (which is not my strength) and trying to decide what to do. Then, I felt a nudge to reach out to a friend I met on Instagram who is a podcast host and coach and who has inspired me immensely over the past couple of years. I asked her if she was doing private c coaching. She got back to me almost immediately and said yes. Not only was her answer yes, but she had availability the following day for a clarity coaching session! Look at it as a coincidence or a God wink, whichever you prefer, but to me it was divine intervention. Stefanie Gass and I spent one hour on Zoom and I had all of my answers. Yes, I know personal branding! Yes, I have become an expert in personal branding. But the reality is, my experience and what I am really great at is brand marketing strategy. I love to teach. I love to strategize. I know marketing and how to create a brand. My Messaging was Off I didn't have the perfect messaging and Stefanie opened my eyes to that. I wasn't communicating the right message to get the right audience. What I was really doing was so much more than personal branding…which has become a buzz word and is not seen as valuable as it really is. Vulnerability Remember in episode 4 I talked about being vulnerable? Well, I had to get really vulnerable and get on a call and admit that I wasn't feeling "it" in my business. That something was askew. That for the first time in a few years I wasn't thriving and making the numbers I had the goal of making. I accepted the fact that my business is not perfect, and I needed help to get back on the right track. I don't like asking for help! In fact, it's been a real struggle for me in the past. But the reality is that sometimes, we simply have to follow our gut when things feel off. Especially when the numbers are proving it, right? Darn numbers! Anyway, I faced reality this week and found the clarity I needed all because I was willing to be vulnerable, have courage and ask for help. So here it is! Let Me Tell You Exactly What I Do! I help businesswomen and entrepreneurs connect and grow your audience and attract more clients using brand marketing strategies. There are six pillars to the brand marketing strategies I provide. On-line marketing Story telling Differentiation Visual Branding Genuine networking Relationship building Business is Slow for Everyone Business is slow right now. But, without a doubt, all of the people I am hearing say they were laid off by their full-time job are going to need to create work if they don't find another 9 to 5. It may be that more people have part time jobs and create a side gig. More people will become entrepreneurs. My brand marketing strategies can help people moving into their second phase, maybe before they were ready. Why Am I Telling You This? Why do I tell you all of this? Because unless you are a medical professional, no matter what field you are in, Covid 19 is changing the landscape of your career or business. If you aren't busy with work right now, take a deep dive into your business. Use my brand equation from episode 2 and identify your values, visions and passions. Create a personal brand and set yourself up to help and serve others when things shift back to whatever the new normal will be. Start telling people now about the problem you can solve for them. Be present. The Controversy There is controversy over whether or not to sell right now. But what I believe, and I may catch flack for this, but business is business and if you can solve a problem for people, they need to know you are there for them. If you just gift up and hide, you are doing your potential clients a disservice. If you don't attempt to make money and make money, you can't put money back into the economy to support other small business owners. Your audience needs to know you are there for them now and will be there for them when the pandemic has resolved. Do It Right Don't be in your face salsey but be present. Continue to showcase your business, your skills, and increase the awareness of the problem you solve for others. Dive into your PR and communication strategies. Build out your email list. Build relationships. Learn how you can improve your business and your messaging. Build the know, like and trust factor while the opportunity exists. People buy personality and emotions, not products and services. Look inside and see how you can differentiate yourself and stand out as the go to for the problem you solve. People will need you when this is over. Courage I leave you with this quote from the movie, "We Bought a Zoo". "You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally 20 seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it." Forget about being perfect, do your best, and use courage to find the answers you need to do just that. Until next time, stay well, my friends. Learn more about me, your host, Robyn Graham, HERE. • You can't just dream, you have to create a personal brand to make the dream come true!

Rumer continues her commitment to communication and marketing education by telling and sharing entrepreneurial stories through her daily digital program THIS IS IT WITH CHELDIN. Through this online program small business owners have the opportunity to find their marketing voice while promoting their products and services. In addition to producing her own digital morning talk show, Rumer has recently launched the THIS IS IT NETWORK, where she produces additional fun and engaging online programs highlighting captivating hosts and their businesses. This national, interactive, digital TV network connects remarkable women to inspiring stories. Each episode aims to engage, entertain and educated her growing THIS IS IT TV community. As a marketing expert, Rumer has developed a result-driven yet cost-effective online marketing course and instructional program called SCREAM YOUR DREAM. This digital, hands-on, educational tool supports the needs of small business owners, entrepreneurs and independent sales professionals who are looking to take their personal brand and marketing efforts to the next level while achieving their realistic and measurable on-going business goals. As a working mom of two wonderful children, Rumer works to inspire female entrepreneurs to no longer whisper their wishes but to in fact – scream their dreams. Rumer's upcoming book, SCREAM YOUR DREAM is expected out in Spring 2020. This book will allow Rumer's audience to bring her message home and turn their dreams into reality. Rumer is also an Adjunct Professor at Temple University in Philadelphia where she instructs undergraduate students in the art of Personal Branding as well as Interactive Media and Advertising. Phase 1 Cheldin attended LaSalle University and thought she would land herself a role on MTV! When that didn't happen, at 22 she launched a hand sized magazine, which failed. But that didn't stop her. She learned from failure and moved on by connecting with and observing others in leadership roles. Building relationships is what ultimately landed her a job with the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa, and then with a chain of Irish Pubs. Phase 2 Started i-g creative as a way to help small business owners, primarily women, find their marketing voice. When working with clients she noticed that they were not able to speak, to share their story, their products and services. They couldn't convey with confidence and repetitively what they do. This is how she came up with Scream Your Dream and This Is It TV. She wanted to ensure people no longer whisper but scream their dream. She refers to Oprah's philosophy of "Nothing is more important than being seen and heard." 2020 is the year of bragging boldly, don't just scream your dream, be intentional with what you are screaming. Your personal brand depends on it. Your personal brand is what people are saying and thinking about you when you aren't in the room. You must be able to tell your story so that people: Know who you are – be OK with saying what you do and what you are good at. Know what you want. Know why you deserve it. And boldly speak what you know. • Corona virus got you down? Here are some ways to stay positive!
Today I am feeling a rush of gratitude for my listeners. Anyone of you could choose hundreds or thousands of other podcasts to listen to, but you are with me! I am grateful and appreciate you! My goal is to bring you content that will enlighten, inspire and educate you, but today, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, I want you to know that I am here for you, to cheer you on in a time of crisis and overwhelm, and I'm praying for you. Each of us is affected by the virus to various extents. I am so blessed that as of today, I do not know anyone directly who has the virus. My family and I are all safe and home together. Our extended families are safe, healthy and taking appropriate precautions to stay healthy. I do know many people who have lost their jobs, who are entrepreneurs and lost all of their clients in one day, who are in a face to face service industry, like me, and are not permitted to see clients. No clients means no income. The economic impact the virus is having today is reaching far and wide and we have no idea what the future holds. We have so many unknowns and with unknowns comes fear and anxiety. We can't sugar coat any of this and I am not going to pretend everything is going to be fine, because I don't know that it will be for all of us. But what I can do, is be here to support you and bring a glimpse of hope and cheer to you. The one thing that I am doing every day to help me stay grounded and hopeful is writing at least one thing I am grateful for in my journal. If you try to write at least one thing you are grateful for each morning, I bet you will end up with a list of three things. Try it for 3 days and see what happens. When you feel down, think about that thing, or three, that you were grateful for that morning and see if it doesn't help you keep a positive perspective. Other things you can do to stay positive… If possible, get out and take a walk. Fresh air does the body and mind good. As you walk, look around you and allow yourself to be inspired by the miraculous beauty around you. If you can't leave your home to take a walk, sit on your back porch and listen to the birds singing. Listen to podcasts. Take this time to learn personally or professionally. There is a plethora of amazing podcasts that you can listen to for personal and business development. I guarantee you will finish listening with at least one piece of inspiration. Read a book. Not having time to read is no longer an excuse. Start an exercise program. Support the fitness trainers who can't get paid for in-person training sessions but are doing free or donation only on-line video classes. Like a walk in the fresh air, exercise does both the mind and body good! Just don't become a couch potato. Call or Facetime family and friends. Check in with them to ensure they aren't suffering from loneliness, anxiety or depression. Play games with your family. Create memories. Clean out closets and donate what you no longer need. Journal about the events of the day. Take pictures of your family doing the things they are doing in this unique season. Pray. Take time to just sit and pray for those in need, for those who lost their jobs, for those who contracted the virus, for people who have lost a loved one, for those who have no food. Pray for the healthcare workers and first responders. It's amazing that when we pray for others we realize how blessed we are. Think about how we are all getting back to basics. Reconnecting with others, having deeper more meaningful conversations with our family members, and appreciating the small things we've been taking advantage of. If you are an entrepreneur, keep putting out content and letting your audience know that you are still there for them. They will still need you when this time passes. Shine a positive light in their email inbox or their social media feed. Don't throw in the towel. Do the things that don't have fees attached to them and give your audience touch points so that you stay front of mind. Come up with a positive mantra to say to yourself every time the anxious and fearful thoughts come into your mind. And, I leave you with this verse from Isaiah. Isaiah 40:29-31 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, They will soar on wings like eagles; They will run and not grow weary, They will walk and not be faint.
