At this point in John's letter he wants to encourage the church by reminding them about their position in the family of God. They're his children and heirs with his Son, Jesus Christ. He also wants to remind them that their practice, how they live their lives and in the power of the Holy Spirit is continually move from sinner to Saint in Christ!
