When we believe in Jesus we are given incredible spiritual blessings from God. We are able to truly see, know and hear The Lord and understand His Word. Without Jesus this is impossible. We are also immediately rescued from the darkness of our sin, hopeless, and condemnation. We never again need to be identified by our past darkness, but rather by the light of salvation.
Despite witnessing so many signs, the crowds of Jesus’ day still refused to believe. Seeing their perpetual unbelief, God hardened their hearts so they would remain blind and numb to the truth. The Bible warns, “Seek the Lord, while He may be found.” Those you continue to stop their ears to the voice of God risk the eternal consequence of being hardened past the point of no return.

Sometimes Jesus is right in front of us, calling to us, telling us He is the way to eternal life. When we choose to believe in Him we can have a peace that surpasses all understanding. Sometimes we may be following God in our life and get to a place that doesn't look the way we think it should, is God still with us? As we dig into the Book of John we get to the hour that Jesus has been talking about, the hour that all of scripture has pointed to, and it is not exactly what people thought it was going to be.

For generations, people have attempted to silence the message of Jesus. The Pharisees in John’s day rightly concluded that their efforts were, “not doing any good.” The gospel can never be stopped. His Word is eternal. In order to truly belong to Him, we must forsake this life and follow. When did that happen for you?

When Jesus rode into town on a donkey, many held palm branches and cheered His arrival by shouting “Hosanna!” However, their apparent enthusiasm was only superficial. Their praise came with motive and earthly expectation. One day His true followers from every nation will praise Him while holding palm branches once again. This will happen in Heaven. How authentic is your praise?

Paul declared that he had determined to know nothing except Jesus Christ. To determine to do or be something is a deliberate act. For the Christian we must determine to not become entangled in worldly affairs. We must determine to be ambassadors for Christ who actively make disciples. What have you determined for Jesus?

When we find Lazarus at supper with Jesus after he is raised from the dead, we see a preview of the believer’s eternal life to come. However, Judas Iscariot is incensed as the sister of Lazarus offers expensive perfume to Jesus. This reveals the division among mankind over Jesus. One day it will be revealed that not all who seem to follow Jesus had a pure motive. What is yours?
Many people refuse Jesus not for lack of signs and evidence, but rather for the cost. Following Jesus requires repentance from sin and full surrender of our lives. Caiaphas like many today sought to destroy Jesus so many would not believe in Him. In divine irony, it would be the very thing that still draw the masses to saving faith today. What do you believe?
