Last week we discussed how “worship,” as the Bible teaches, is sacrifice. Sacrifice is obedience and therefore, obedience is what worship is. Ultimately, we are obedient to the Word of God when we sacrifice our own will for God’s will to be done in our lives.
As Christ followers, many of us would say that we are living sacrifices. We may even say that we would follow Jesus even to death, just like Peter did, but then just like Peter did moments later, we will curse him through our actions, and follow our fleshly will rather than God’s will. Why do we make this mistake again and again? Because we are not content with God’s will happening in our lives. We decide that we’d rather have something else.
Today we examine what true biblical contentment with the God’s will looks like. We do this through a look at the 4 soils parable and examining the lives of both Paul aJesus.
Scriptures
Romans 12:1-2
Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, Luke 8:1-15—4 Soils
Philippians 4:4-20
Hebrews 12:1-2
1 Peter 5:8
Matthew 26:36-46
1 Corinthians 10:3-6, 2 Timothy 2:22
Worship. When you hear that word, what comes to mind? WHO is around? WHAT are you doing? WHERE are you at? WHEN are you doing it? WHY are you doing it? HOW are you dressed? Today we examine Romans 12:1-2 to learn that Worship is sacrificing our will to be obedient to God’s will for our lives. How do we do this? By controlling the things that we think about.
