The Rock Fight: Outdoor Industry & Adventure Sports Commentary

Welcome back to THE ROCK FIGHT an outdoor podcast where we aim for the head!

Outdoor adventure is ingrained in the soul of every listener of THE ROCK FIGHT. And it's our daily adventures that keep the dream of bigger outings alive.

Bigger outings like retracing THE PONY EXPRESS from Missouri to California on horseback as journalist Will Grant did in 2019; a journey he recounts in his new book: THE LAST RIDE OF THE PONY EXPRESS.

Today on THE ROCK FIGHT, Will stops by to talk about his trip, the American west, what's next and of course provide an update on the most important characters from his journey, the horses themselves, Chicken Fry & Badger.

Our outdoor community has a stuff problem. Brands keep making way more stuff than we need and there's not a lot of motivation for them to stop.

Today on the show, owner and president of GEARTRADE, Aaron Provine joins THE ROCK FIGHT to talk about how outdoor brands, the resale category, the impact brands are creating in the world and how consumers can approach changing their shopping habits to put secondhand first. Lastly, Aaron offers a prediction for his beloved Denver Broncos.

All that and even a new theme song from Chris DeMakes today on THE ROCK FIGHT!

Today on THE ROCK FIGHT Colin digs into a requirement for anyone looking to live an outdoorsy lifestyle: You have to go ROCK CLIMBING! You don't need to be or become a rock climber, you just need to do it at least once in order to gain your outdoorsy street cred.

Then Colin gives an update on what's happening with THE ROCK FIGHT and how your support has helped to grow the show.

Are gear reviews anything more than easy content to fill up the pages or websites of outdoor media companies?

Today on THE ROCK FIGHT Colin and Justin (one of the outdoor industry's most notable gear reviewers) review the gear review. What's good about them, what needs to improve and do we really have anything left to say.

They start the show with Tales from the Trail where there is a lot of summer water chatter as well as taking some shots at recent feature on Outside.com about big trucks that seems to highlight some of the issues over at that publication.

Then (10:46) they get into their conversation about gear reviews, what's wrong with them, why they are the way they are and what could make them better. Along the way they talk about the process of writing a gear review, why outdoor brands have become celebrities and how the outdoor media treats the brands like celebrities.

If you like the outdoors and outdoor gear, this is an episode for you!

Can you tell us what the CCC stands for?

Before reading THE TREE ARMY BOYS by David Meerman Scott in the latest issue of MOUNTAIN GAZETTE there was a damn good chance that neither could we. But as it turns out, much of the infrastructure that our outdoor community enjoys was built by this initiative from the 1930's.

Today on THE ROCK FIGHT, David Meerman Scott stops by to talk about the CCC and what he learned researching the article for MOUNTAIN GAZETTE.

Learn more about David Meerman Scott and follow him on Threads and Instagram.
