2 Timothy 4:1-5 NIV

1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

The world wants to believe God is good, how we represent Him makes that possible.

Sending the right message

Church on Monday means....
seeking the right instruction

V. 3 & 4 "For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from truth and turn aside to myths"

Faith comes by hearing not "having heard" The nature of faith implies a relationship with God that is current.

Church on Monday means....
serving in someone else's world

v. 5 "keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

God guarantees His word will not return void, He doesn't guarantee it will be immediate, keep sowing!

How do I keep sowing in this world:
-Do the work of an evangelist
-Discharge all the duties of your ministry

Your existence is evidence that this generation needs something that your life contains.

Anyone can get bold after God shows up, but God's building a church that will get bold so He shows up.

What is it that you need to finish strong?

- Is it not the will of God for your life...your destiny?

What is destiny?

- Is destiny living according to the Father’s plan for your life?

- You become a person of destiny when you realize that Father God has a plan for your life and a place of destiny for you and your family.

- Father God’s plan for your life is not just for you; it is multigenerational.

- His plan for your family will outlive you. God is doing things now to set up for your children’s children according to His plans and purposes.

Genesis 11:27-29, 31-32 ESV

27 Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran fathered Lot. 28 Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his kindred, in Ur of the Chaldeans. 29 And Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and Iscah.
31 Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife, and they went forth together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan, but when they came to Haran, they settled there. 32 The days of Terah were 205 years, and Terah died in Haran.

What can we learn from Terah’s life?

• Terah was a man who only went halfway.

• God told him to take his family and go to Canaan...but he reached a city called Haran and settled there. 

• Terah reached Haran, and became very comfortable... he decided that it was a beautiful place and that he saw no need in continuing his journey to Canaan...it just wasn’t worth the effort. 

• Terah’s thought process must have been like this: I’m only halfway to my destiny, but this place is a lush valley and I think I could be very comfortable staying right here. 

• Before we get real judgemental on Terah, we might want to look at our own lives...this is where many believers are today. Many have settled for less than God’s plan and destiny for their lives. Many have gone far and know that there is still more that God has for you to fulfill his destiny...but something in you is saying, “Well, why go that far? Why trust God for more when it is so comfortable here?” 

Hear me today, I believe the Lord is saying, “I have new plans for you. I have new opportunities for you.

I have new people, new places and new plans for you... Plans that I want to release into this season of your life.” 

If we choose the path that Terah took...we will miss God’s best for us. We could end up with a short story about our life that was like Terah’s...the Bible says that he “came to Haran and dwelt there...and Terah died in Haran. He never reached his place of destiny!

Staying in your lane​ is a concept that relates to everyone generally but also to each of us very specifically.

Distraction comes in a few forms:
1. Sin
2. Coveting what someone else has
3. Concerning yourself with what you think someone else should do.​
4. Measuring yourself by other people.​

Once you know who you are ​called to do be​, find out what ​YOU are called to do​.

To focus on your race you must be well-equipped to be free from distraction.

How are we equipped?
