RICHARD LEBLANC ON THE ROGERS OUTAGE AND RAMIFICATIONS OF THAT
Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Richard Leblanc, professor of governance, law and ethics at York University.
Rogers Communications has been facing plenty of backlash from its customers after a massive outage of its services took place last Friday and lasted for more than 15 hours. The outage affected key sectors like health care, the financial industry and law enforcement. The company's CEO Tony Staffieri eventually blamed the outage on a maintenance update. Dr. Leblanc says that threat actors like Russian cyber hackers might look at this and determine that our health care sector and financial institutions are vulnerable to hacks through our major telecom provider. He also weighs in on the meeting that industry minister François-Philippe Champagne will be having with Rogers Communications and the heads of other telecom giants to discuss enhancing "the reliability of networks across Canada."
