The Roost Podcast

Modern problems (the weirdness of the 2020 college football schedule wreaking havoc on podcast content) require modern solutions (talking about a bunch of random things at once). On this episode of the Roost Podcast, Matt and Carter talk about the opener between Central Arkansas and Austin Peay, which may have been ugly but brought the weirdness in the way that only college football can, plus the extreme oddities of those teams' schedules. Then, it's Rice's (surprisingly low!) C-USA title odds combined with some (entirely reasonable!) schedule projections.

Jack Fox joins the illustrious ranks of repeat guests! Matt and Carter get this episode of the Roost Podcast started by wrapping up the 2020 positional previews with special teams. Then Jack joins the pod to talk his last year: the odyssey of his first NFL season, the mysterious Birmingham Punter Conclave, and his battle for the Detroit Lions' punting job. Plus, why you should always watch a punter's . . . hands (?), and Detroit food takes (or rather, lack thereof).

The Extended Offseason Interview Series is . . . over! (For now?) So Matt and Carter do a very quick COVID/schedule news roundup before diving into a full preview of every offensive position group for the Rice Owls in 2020. This episode is chock full of deep dive analysis on every single position (including the fullbacks! lots of fullback talk!), so don't miss it!

The Extended Offseason Interview Series continues with Aaron Coleman of Runnin' With The Herd, who joins Matt and Carter to talk all things Marshall football. What's it like to have your starting QB enter the portal in the middle of the summer? Is Brenden Knox the best of a seriously deep group of C-USA running backs? All this and more on this week's Roost Podcast!

The Extended Offseason Interview Series continues! Matt and Carter are joined by Matthew Brune of Mean Green 247, who chats North Texas Mean Green football with the guys (and also doubles our usual quota of "people named Matthew B"). A little less COVID-related news this week, so Matthew takes our hosts on a deep dive of where UNT stands as a program after last season's disappointing 4–8 season last year. Plus, a slogan for all of C-USA football!

The Extended Offseason Interview Series continues—and could soon become the Very Extremely Extended Offseason Interview Series. Matt and Carter are joined by Jared Kalmus of Underdog Dynasty, ostensibly to talk about the outlook for the UTSA Roadrunners in 2020. But there were some minor news items in college football the day of recording: the Ivy League cancelling fall sports, the Big Ten moving to a conference-only schedule, and more. So the guys spend the majority of the episode talking about the ramifications of these decisions for college football as a whole, but don't worry, UTSA fans, there's still plenty of Sincere McCormick discussion.

Phase II of the Extended Offseason Interview Series continues! Matt is joined by Ben Carlisle of Bleed Tech Blue to discuss another of Rice's 2020 opponents, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.  We talk about "what could have been" had QB J'Mar Smith and others not been suspended last season, the outlook for the quarterback position this year and what changes to expect from the Bulldogs' new defensive coordinator.
