The Roost Podcast

Just as college football teams around the country are starting up their offseason workouts, so too is the Roost Podcast starting up our offseason programming! On this episode, Matt and Carter catch you up on all the Rice sports news that's happened since our last episode, plus a final wrap-up on the 2021 football recruiting class and a National Signing Day that was uneventful (to say the least) for the Owls.

Join Matt and Carter as they give their picks for categories like Best Play, Most Dominant Game, Most Valuable Transfer, and more.

Football season's over but the Roost Podcast don't stop! (Not yet, anyway.) First, Matt and Carter are joined by Caroline Hall and Trey Jackson to discuss the amazing content they put together for Rice Athletics this year. Then, it's on to a rundown of the prospects that signed with Rice Football during last week's Early Signing Period and what those players will bring to the Owls in the future.

The Owls have one last chance to push their bizarre 2020 season to an even better finish, and Matt and Carter are here to talk you through it. On this episode of The Roost podcast, it's a full preview of the UAB Blazers, who are a bit of a mystery after a month layoff and potential roster issues heading into Saturday, but played extremely well in September and October. Does Rice have what it takes to down the Blazers in Houston? Tune in to find out what we think!

HOW 'BOUT THEM OWLS, Y'ALL? Matt and Carter are here for a bonus episode of the Roost Podcast, breaking down Rice's upset, shutout victory over undefeated, ranked Marshall. All the big plays, shocking moments, and more, plus discussion of how this could be a program-defining win for the Owls.

It's another episode of The Roost Podcast, and maybe the game that Matt and Carter are previewing in it will actually happen! After some scheduling discussion (well, it's really more like exasperated ranting, because what else is there to say at this point), they get into previewing Rice's toughest opponent of this strange, abbreviated season. Plus, should college football games be made into three-way battle royale wrestling matches? All that and more!

Losing is no fun! On this episode of the Roost Podcast, Matt and Carter break down Rice's disappointing loss to North Texas in Denton. They offer bold suggestions for the team (such as: stop fumbling!) and discuss how much more gut-wrenching it is to lose a game like that when you have real expectations. Then, it's on to a preview of this weekend's showdown with UTEP. Can the Owls rebound against a team they're rightfully favored against? We'll see!

As of publishing time for this episode, Rice's game with North Texas is still on, so . . . fingers crossed! With no game to review for the second week in a row (sigh), this episode of the Roost Podcast dives into the match-up in Denton. Can the Owls stop the Mean Green's explosive offense? Can they sustain drives against a, uh, questionable run defense? Matt and Carter are here to talk all that and more (and to mourn the loss of a midmorning Friday C-USA game in a high school stadium)!

Are Matt and Carter capable of recording an episode of The Roost Podcast that's under an hour? It turns out they are (barely)! With last week's unfortunate cancellation of the UTSA game, there's a bevy of COVID-related scheduling news to talk over, plus some positive news about Rice's secondary depth. Then, we preview this weekend's game in Ruston against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
