Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by life that you started questioning God, wondering if you heard Him correctly, or struggling to find time to spend in His Word? If you're an exhausted Christian mom trying to balance motherhood, marriage, work, family struggles, and your relationship with God, this episode is for you.
Welcome back to The Rooted Mother. After being away for over a month, I'm sharing an honest update about the season I've been walking through and why I've struggled to show up for the podcast and Rooted and Thriving.
Since starting my new teaching position, life has been heavier than I ever expected. During my first week in the classroom, my 98-year-old grandfather experienced three mini-strokes, and my grandmother was hospitalized after a fall just days later. For a time, we didn't know if either of them would survive. Then, during a visit over Columbus Day weekend, I experienced the heartbreak of seeing how much my grandmother's dementia had progressed. The woman who once remembered my family no longer remembered me at all.
Alongside the fear and grief surrounding my grandparents, I've been carrying the emotional weight of teaching children who face difficult circumstances at home. I've found myself coming home exhausted, struggling with my patience, missing time with my own children, and finding it difficult to prioritize my marriage.
But one of the hardest parts of this season has been my relationship with God.
I used to spend hours studying Scripture, taking notes, and soaking in God's Word. That time helped me feel close to Him, grow in my faith, and respond to life's challenges with greater peace and patience. Now, I barely have time to open the verse of the day, and I've been struggling with guilt, spiritual exhaustion, and the feeling that I've lost something important.
I'm also wrestling with a question I never expected to ask: Did I even hear God right?
In this episode, we're talking honestly about what it means to seek God when life feels overwhelming, how to navigate seasons when your faith feels different, and why trusting God doesn't mean ignoring your exhaustion or pretending you have all the answers.
We'll reflect on Matthew 11:28–30 and Jesus' invitation to the weary and burdened to come to Him and find rest.
In this episode, we'll explore:
If you're a Christian mother feeling burned out, spiritually disconnected, overwhelmed by motherhood, or uncertain about what God is doing in your life, I hope this honest conversation reminds you that you can come to Him exactly as you are.
You don't have to turn your pain into a testimony before you're allowed to talk about it. You can bring God your questions, your grief, your exhaustion, and your uncertainty.
Scripture mentioned: Matthew 11:28–30; James 1:5.
Thank you for being here, for checking in on me, and for giving me grace as I navigate this season. ❤️
Let's connect: What are you carrying right now that you haven't had the space to process? I'd love to hear from you.
Keep rooting yourself in Him, mamas.

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “This isn't what I planned”?
That's exactly where I find myself right now.
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, I'm sharing a very personal life update about the unexpected changes happening in my life, including going back to teaching full-time, putting much of Rooted & Thriving on pause, changing the way we homeschool, and navigating what this new season means for our family.
I share the surprising story of how I ended up with a teaching position I never planned to pursue, the financial reasons behind the decision, and the very real guilt and grief I felt about stepping away from the life I thought I was building.
I also talk about something God has been teaching me through all of this:
Being rooted doesn't mean being unchanging.
Our circumstances change. Our careers change. Our children grow. Our plans change. But when our foundation is Christ, we can remain rooted even when everything around us looks different.
If you're an overwhelmed Christian mom walking through a season you didn't expect, going back to work, adjusting to a new season of motherhood, grieving a dream, changing direction, or simply wondering what God is doing, I hope this episode reminds you that a change in direction doesn't mean you've failed, and a detour doesn't mean God has forgotten you.
You don't have to understand the entire plan. You just have to trust the One who does.
Not everything will go as planned. But I can trust the One who is in control.

Have you ever felt like you lost yourself after becoming a mom?
Maybe you miss the woman you were before motherhood. Maybe you’ve heard the advice to “not lose yourself in motherhood” so many times that you’ve started wondering if becoming a mother really does mean giving up a piece of yourself.
But what if we’ve been asking the wrong question?
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we’re taking a closer look at the cultural message behind “Don’t lose yourself in motherhood” and asking whether motherhood is really something we need to protect our identity from.
Why don’t we hear “Don’t lose yourself in fatherhood” nearly as often? Why is fatherhood so often celebrated as a reason to step up, provide, work hard, and build, while motherhood can be framed as something that will hold a woman back? And why does “I’m just a mom” sound like an apology?
We’ll talk about the way our culture has confused financial productivity with contribution, why motherhood is often minimized, and the pressure moms can feel to prove they are more than just a mother.
But this isn’t an argument that motherhood should become your entire identity. You are more than a mom, but not because motherhood isn’t enough.
Your identity was never meant to be found in motherhood, your career, your accomplishments, your productivity, or your ability to hold everything together.
Your identity is rooted in Christ.
And maybe you don’t need to “find yourself” again after motherhood.
Maybe you’re becoming someone new.
We’ll talk about the grief that can come with the changes of motherhood, the difference between losing something and being lost, and how God can use motherhood to reveal, transform, and shape us.
Instead of asking, “How do I get myself back?” maybe the better question is:
“God, who are You forming me to become?”
If you’re an overwhelmed Christian mom who has ever wondered where you went after becoming a mother, this episode is for you.
You didn’t necessarily lose yourself.
Maybe motherhood is one of the places where God is teaching you who you really are.

How many times have I told myself, “Okay, this week is going to be different”?
I’ll start eating better. I’ll work out. I’ll wake up early and spend time with God. I’ll finally get my house under control. I’ll create the perfect homeschool schedule, work on my business, keep up with the laundry, meal plan… and somehow get to everything else on my list.
Monday is going to be the day I finally get it all together.
And then Monday comes… and life happens.
As a Type A person who genuinely loves to plan, I’ve always found comfort in knowing what’s coming next. But when plans change, I can quickly become stressed and anxious. I realized that I wasn’t just making plans for my days, I was putting a lot of hope into those plans. I thought that if I could just get the schedule right, everything would finally work.
But I wasn’t just planning my day.
I was trying to control it.
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, I’m sharing what God has been teaching me about letting go of rigid routines and creating a simple rhythm with Him instead.
A rhythm that leaves room for motherhood, interruptions, flexibility, grace, and real life.
I’m sharing the simple practices that have helped me stay rooted in God throughout my day, starting with prayer, getting into His Word even when I only have a few minutes, choosing three priorities instead of trying to accomplish everything, and practicing gratitude in the ordinary moments.
Most importantly, I’m learning that I don’t have to wait until Monday to start again.
God’s mercies are new every morning.
So when I fall out of rhythm, I can return.
I can return to God.
I can return to what matters.
I can take the next faithful step.
Because I don’t need to know exactly how tomorrow will unfold.
I just need to know Who is already there.
If I’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in perfectionism, or constantly like I’m behind, maybe I don’t need another routine.
Maybe I need a rhythm that leaves room for God, grace, and real life.

Why am so tired all the time when I feel like I didn’t even accomplish that much? If you’re an overwhelmed mom carrying the mental load of motherhood, struggling with mom guilt, and wondering why you feel completely exhausted at the end of the day, this episode of The Rooted Mother is for you.
As moms, we can spend our entire day doing a thousand tiny things, homeschooling, caring for our kids, breaking up arguments, making meals, managing the house, thinking ahead, carrying everyone’s needs, and trying to find time for God, and still end the day feeling like we didn’t do enough.
In this episode I open up about what Christian mom burnout has looked like in my own life, including the mental and emotional exhaustion of motherhood, losing my temper with my kids, feeling guilty when homeschooling doesn't go as planned, trying to build a business while raising four children, and realizing that I don't always know how to truly rest.
But what if your exhaustion isn't because you're lazy or not doing enough?
What if you're simply carrying too much and trying to do it all at once?
In this episode, we talk about:
Most importantly, this is a reminder for the exhausted mom who feels like she's failing:
You are not exhausted because you're lazy. You may simply be carrying way too much and trying to do it all at once. And you don't have to carry it all. God has you.

Do you struggle with shame around your body, food, motherhood, mental health, or the feeling that you’re simply not good enough?
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we’re having an honest conversation about breaking the cycle of shame and discovering what happens when we stop allowing our struggles to define our identity.
Michelle is joined by Jessica Blake of Seeker Ministries and Gospel Praise Fitness, and Teagan Field, a mental health therapist specializing in body image, eating disorders, and trauma. Together, they share deeply personal stories of eating disorders, body image struggles, anxiety, trauma, postpartum depression, mental health, and the shame that can keep women suffering in silence.
Jessica shares her journey through bulimia, anorexia, over-exercising, and an unhealthy relationship with her body, and how encountering Jesus transformed the way she viewed herself, food, fitness, and her body.
Teagan shares her personal experience with eating disorders and the impact of shame within her family, as well as how her own healing journey eventually led her toward helping others struggling with eating disorders, trauma, and mental health.
Michelle also opens up about her experience with postpartum depression, anxiety, motherhood, and the shame that kept her from asking for help.
Together, we talk about:
• Why shame can become part of our identity
• The difference between guilt and shame
• Shame, body image, and eating disorders
• How social media can fuel comparison and body dissatisfaction
• Why Christian women can struggle with mental health and still love Jesus
• When it may be time to seek therapy
• The role of faith, therapy, and fitness in healing
• Renewing our minds and learning to see ourselves through God's truth
• Why asking for help is not a weakness
• What to do when you're suffering silently with shame
• How Jesus meets us in the places where we feel most broken
If you've ever thought, "Something is wrong with me," "I'm not a good enough mom," "I should be able to handle this," or "My body isn't good enough," I hope this conversation reminds you that your struggles do not define your identity.
You are not alone. You are not beyond help. And your worth is not determined by your body, your past, your mistakes, your mental health struggles, or how well you think you're doing.
Jesus sees you exactly where you are, and He meets you there.

How do I trust God when I can't see what He's doing?
Have you ever prayed for something over and over again and wondered, “God, are You even doing anything?” Maybe you're waiting for an answered prayer, waiting for change in your marriage, waiting to see growth in your children, or simply wondering why you don't feel like you're growing spiritually.
What if God is doing something beneath the surface that you simply can't see yet?
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we're looking at what gardening can teach us about God, faith, spiritual growth, trusting God's timing, and the different seasons of life.
The Bible begins in a garden, the Garden of Eden, and throughout Scripture, God repeatedly uses seeds, soil, roots, vines, branches, fruit, planting, pruning, and harvest to teach us about our relationship with Him.
But it wasn't until my husband and I built a tiny, little garden in our yard that these biblical lessons became real to me.
Gardening taught me that growth takes time. You can't see what's happening underneath the soil. You can't see the roots growing. You can't force a seed to produce fruit before it's ready. You can prepare the soil, plant the seed, water it, pull the weeds, and care for it, but ultimately, God gives the growth.
And isn't that true in our lives too?
As Christian moms, we often want to see the fruit immediately. We want to know that our prayers are working. We want to see our children grow in their faith. We want to become more patient, peaceful, and trusting overnight. We want to know that we're finally making progress.
But what if God is growing roots before He's producing fruit?
This episode is a reminder that not every season is a harvest season. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us there is a season for everything, and a garden gives us a beautiful picture of what that means.
There are seasons of:
🌱 Preparing the soil
🌱 Planting
🌱 Waiting
🌱 Growing
🌱 Pulling weeds
🌱 Pruning
🌱 Harvesting
🌱 Cleaning up and preparing for what's next
If you're an overwhelmed Christian mom who feels like you're stuck, behind, waiting on God, struggling to trust His timing, or wondering why you can't see the growth you're praying for, I hope this episode reminds you:
You don't have to force yourself into the next season. You can be faithful in the season God has you in right now.
Maybe you're looking at what feels like a patch of dirt in your life and wondering why nothing is happening.
But God may be growing something you can't see yet.
In this episode, we'll talk about:
Scriptures mentioned: Genesis 2–3, Matthew 13, 1 Corinthians 3:6, Ecclesiastes 3, and John 15.
Mama, if you're in a season where you can't see the fruit yet, don't assume God has forgotten you.
The growth begins where you can't see it.
Stay rooted. Trust the Gardener. And remember that even when you can't see what God is doing, He is still working.

Have you ever found yourself wondering, “God, where are You?” when life feels completely out of control? Maybe you're praying, but nothing seems to be changing. Maybe you're struggling to trust God because your circumstances don't look anything like you expected.
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, I share a deeply personal story from one of the hardest seasons of my life, a cross-country move after my husband left the Navy, my daughter's hospitalization with orbital cellulitis, an unexpected housing crisis, losing our health insurance, financial uncertainty, and the overwhelming feeling of not knowing what would happen next.
But there's something I couldn't see in the middle of that storm: God was there all along.
At the time, I wasn't actively following Jesus. I was already going to therapy for depression and anxiety, but my faith journey hadn't begun yet. While I was crying and wondering where God was, my mom was praying and reminding me that God would not leave us.
Looking back, I can now see how God was working through that difficult season, and how my mother's prayers were planting seeds that would eventually lead me back to Jesus and into church for the first time in nearly 20 years.
Inspired by Seph Schlueter's song “Won't Start Now,” this episode is a reminder that God doesn't stop being faithful just because our circumstances become difficult.
We'll talk about:
We'll look at Psalm 77, Joshua 4, 2 Timothy 1:5, John 16:33, and Proverbs 3:5–6 as we talk about remembering God's faithfulness when fear and doubt get loud.
If you're an overwhelmed Christian mom who is struggling to trust God right now, I hope this episode reminds you that you don't have to understand what God is doing to trust who He is.
The God who was faithful then is faithful now.
Sometimes, you don't recognize God's presence until you look back and realize He was there all along.

Why am I so angry all the time? If you’re a mom who keeps losing her temper, yelling at your kids, and then drowning in mom guilt afterward, you are not alone, and you are not broken.
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we’re going deeper than simply telling you to “stop yelling.” We’re talking about the real reasons behind mom rage and why anger can sometimes be a sign that your body, mind, and environment are overwhelmed.
We’ll unpack the biological, psychological, and environmental factors that can contribute to anger, irritability, overwhelm, burnout, loneliness, resentment, and emotional exhaustion. We’ll also talk about the cycle so many moms find themselves trapped in: anger → guilt → shame → trying harder → anger again.
I’ll share part of my own experience with depression and how it showed up not only as wanting to isolate myself, but also as anger and rage, and how God began teaching me that my struggle did not mean I was a bad mom or a failure.
Most importantly, we’ll look at what Scripture says about anger, self-control, and God's grace, including:
• James 1:19–20 - being quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger
• Ephesians 4:26–27 - being angry without sinning and not giving the enemy a foothold
• 2 Timothy 1:7 - God giving us a spirit of power, love, and self-control
• Galatians 5:22–23 - the fruit of the Spirit
• Lamentations 3:22–23 - God's mercies being new every morning
If you've ever thought, “I'm a terrible mom,” “I can't control my temper,” “My kids deserve better,” or “Maybe I'm just not meant to be a mom,” I hope this episode reminds you of something important:
You are not your worst reaction. You are not your worst parenting day. And you are not beyond God's grace.
God specifically called you to be their mom. You don't have to do motherhood perfectly, you were never meant to do it without Him.

Are you an overwhelmed mom wondering if motherhood is always going to feel this hard? Maybe you're dealing with mom guilt, burnout, anger, anxiety, postpartum depression, exhaustion, or the feeling that you're trapped in a season that will never change.
In this episode of The Rooted Mother, we're talking about the truth that right now is not forever. When motherhood feels like too much and you can't see a way forward, God hasn't forgotten you, and you were never meant to carry it all on your own.
We're looking at Deuteronomy 31:8, where God promises that He goes before us, stays with us, and will never leave or forsake us. We'll also look at the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19, a man who reached the point of saying, “I've had enough, Lord,” and discover what his story teaches us about exhaustion, weakness, rest, and depending on God.
I'll also share my personal experience with postpartum depression after having my fourth child, Joshua, eight years after my youngest. Having such a large age gap gave me something I didn't have when I experienced postpartum depression with my first three children: perspective. I could finally see right in front of me that the baby stage, sleepless nights, diapers, and constant demands of motherhood really do end.
But knowing a season is temporary doesn't mean it's easy.
You can love your children and still feel overwhelmed.
You can be grateful for motherhood and still need a break.
You can have faith and still have hard days.
You can know this season will end and still need God to carry you through today.
And that's the reminder I want you to take away from this episode:
You don't have to carry forever today. You just have to let Jesus meet you in right now.
If you're an overwhelmed Christian mom who feels stuck, exhausted, guilty, or like you're failing, I hope this episode reminds you that God is with you in the middle of this season, and right now is not forever.

The Rooted Mother is a Christian motherhood podcast for overwhelmed moms seeking biblical encouragement through postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, anxiety, mom…
For years, I battled anxiety, postpartum depression, panic attacks, and the overwhelming belief that I wasn't enough as a mom. I loved my children deeply, but there were days I felt like I was simply surviving instead of enjoying motherhood.
Everything began to change when I stopped trying to carry motherhood on my own and started rooting my life in Christ.
I'm Michelle, a wife, homeschooling mom of four, former public school teacher, military spouse, and the founder of Rooted & Thriving. Through every move, every season of loneliness, every anxious thought, and every hard day of motherhood, God has faithfully met me with His peace. Now my mission is to help other Christian moms experience that same hope.
Each week on The Rooted Mother, you'll find honest conversations about:
