  • Oregon Dem de Aragua

Since I recorded this video yesterday afternoon, The Oregonian reported Portland police confirmed the female shot by Customs and Border Patrol two days ago was previously arrested for prostitution in Washington County. Federal officials say she was affiliated with a Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a previous shooting in Portland. Feds also say her male companion, also shot by CBP after allegedly using his vehicle as a weapon against federal agents, is affiliated with TdA.

Here’s Congresswoman Janelle Bynum’s statement about the shooting, posted hours after the shooting. It’s still up. She represents the most competitive U.S. House district in Oregon and is my representative.

  • Rep. Diehl: under the motor voter hood

Oregon State Representative Ed Diehl (R-Stayton) recently observed how the Department of Motor Vehicles will handle the revised motor voter process after disclosure that process led to the registration of upwards of 2,000 noncitizens to vote in oregon.

Rep. Diehl returns to the podcast to share what he learned, discuss automatic voter registration more broadly, and preview legislation he plans to introduce to safeguard Oregon’s voting system.

  • Will Lathrop, Attorney General candidate

I last had Will on the podcast back in May 2023. We had a lot to catch up on as he charges toward the finish line in an extremely important race for Oregon’s future.

  • Oregon's unscientific gender push

Paul Terdal, a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat from the Portland area, worked for years through Oregon’s rigorous process to extend insurance coverage to kids with autism. He noticed the state applied a far less rigorous standard to what it calls “gender-affirming treatments,” including irreversible surgery, for kids. In fact, Terdal says, Oregon commissioned then buried a study showing there was no real evidence of medical benefit to people who undergo the treatments green-lit by the state.

I talk to him about all that and more in this episode.

Terdal’s National Review Online article is here.

  • The Republican a whisker from a Portland runoff

Brian Knotts, a Republican and first-time candidate, raised and spent around $1,200 in a blue eastern Multnomah County Commission district primary and is, as of Thursday night, within 30 votes of forcing a November runoff with his better-funded, better-known Democratic opponent.

How’d he do it? Why’d he do it?

(Results as of 10 pm Wednesday) In the primary election, if no candidate gets over 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters move on to the November general election:

  • Campus chaos: Portland State Univ. student interview

I interviewed Portland State University senior Phillip Tobias yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon about the ongoing occupation of the school’s library. Phillip shares new details about the people still inside the library, violence and how the 2020-ish timidity of the university, local government and prosecutors is disrupting the campus during midterm exams.

Phillip’s Twitter/X page, which contains lots of on-the-ground updates from PSU, is here.

PS - I forgot to record an intro and outro to this episode, so we just dive into the interview without me identifying myself or anything. Rest assured, I’m still me.

  • Interview: Rep. Ed Diehl

State Representative Ed Diehl is a freshman who represents the outskirts of Salem and the Santiam Canyon cities of Detroit, Mehama and Idanha.

I wanted to interview Rep. Diehl because he gets what’s going on in the Capitol and throughout Oregon. He’s going places in Oregon politics, or should be.

I hope you enjoy our interview!

  • Monique DeSpain, candidate for OR's 4th Congressional District

    Hi,

Oregon’s Fourth Congressional District (Eugene and most of the coast) wasn’t on the national radar until its current occupant, Val Hoyle, ran headlong into a flurry of scandals (which we’ve assiduously covered here).

Monique DeSpain, Republican, is running to unseat Hoyle, and has made waves with her impressive background and attacks on Hoyle’s ethics. In this interview, Monique and I talk about the border, forest policy, and of course Hoyle’s tumultuous first year in Congress.

    Hope you enjoy.
