  • June 11: Tina, The Killer of Her 5 Year Old Sister is Out of Prison Per Parole Board

    Child killers are released from prison in Canada. Harold Smeltzer abducted, sexually assaulted, murdered and disposed of five year old Kimberley Thompson of Calgary in a garbage bag. Smeltzer had assaulted more than 40 women and girls. Today, still assessed a moderate to high risk to reoffend, Smeltzer is living in a halfway house and has been granted overnights away from the halfway house by the Natonal Parole Board.

    Four federal by-elections scheduled for June 19. One in Ontario, one in Quebec and two in Manitoba. The by-election the country will be watching most closely is Portage-Lisgar in MB where former CPC interim leader Candice Bergen retired. Conservative Party candidate now Candice Bergen's former campaign manager Brandon Leslie. Running against the CPC is People's Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier. Does Bernier have a hope of winning the riding?

    Meanwhile in Winnipeg South, where Liberal MP Jim Carr died last December, some 48 candidates are running with Jim Carr's son Ben Carr carrying the Liberal banner.

    As the national outrage continues over the moving of Paul Bernardo from Millhaven maximum security prison in Ontario to a medium security institution in Quebec where mainly sex offenders are incarcerated, it must be brought into and remain in the mind of Canadians that Canada's justice system is opening prison doors to convicted murderers. Or preparing to.

Former NHL star goaltender with the Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Team Canada is writing his memoir with the working title, "After the Game: Victim of Violence." Don Edwards parents were brutally murdered by George Lovie in 1991 who in turn was sentenced to 25 years in prison prior to parole eligibility. In 2013, the parole board extended day parole to Lovie. Now Lovie is permitted four nights a week at his own apartment and Don Edwards and his family fear full parole is next for Lovie who they have fought relentlessly against being released
