Yesterday the issue of Canada and Canadian values and traditions came up during calls responding to the Donald Trump video. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau argues Canada has "no core identity" "no common denominator" and that Canada is a "post nation state." Trudeau is still supported (according to polling) by over 50% of Canadians. Conservative Party leadership candidate Kellie Leitch calls for newcomers to Canada to be quizzed about their support for "Canadian values" and has been ripped by other conservatives and party leadership candidates. If there is no "core Canadian identity", if Canada is "post nation state", if "Canadian values expected of newcomers' is or approaches racism, does Canada need retooling? Should Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas and Remembrance Day from the official calendar (for this post nation state)? - Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion appeared to give two thumbs down before QP in parl on Thursday when an MP challenged him on the Trudeau government not doing anything to bring Alison Azer's kids home from Iran. With Alison in the gallery, Dion "doubled down", but says he was gesturing to the MP. Alison says she was disturbed by Dion's actions and words.
