  • 102.5: All I Wanna Do! An interview with Sarah Kernochan
In this episode, Becky gets the pleasure of sitting down with the writer, singer/songwriter and filmmaker Sarah Kernochan to discuss 1998's All I Wanna Do on its 20th anniversary. Half infuriating, half inspiring, the story behind All I wanna do is one of strong female friendships, the importance of telling stories, and the wide-ranging damage of Harvey Weinstein. And if that's not your bag, Sarah has some great advice for writing fiction. For more about the movie, don't forget to check out episode 82 with the ladies of We Really Like Her!
Gather your girlfriends (and boyfriends and non-binary friends), and get your self a copy of this awesome film! No more little white gloves!
This week's end credit music is The Hairy Bird performed by The Fingernails

  • 102: Mean Girls (2004) with Kate Barron
It's time for another instalment of "That's Canadian?" This week, professional comedian and podcaster Kate Barron brings us everyone's favourite infinitely quotable teen movie 2004's Mean Girls. We, of course, cover all the Canadian connections of this film, talk about using silblings as comedy sounding boards, have a rousing chat about the career decisions of Rachel McAdams, and totally fan girl out over Rajiv Surendra who plays Kevin G.
The movie totally holds ups, so you should check out Mean Girls on a streaming service near you.
This week's end credit music is the Kevin G rap, performed by Rajiv Surendra

  • 100: The Pyx (1973) with Jimmy Weaver
It's our 100th episode!!! To celebrate, we invited film distributor and all around stand up guy Jimmy Weaver to wrack his encyclopedic brain and bring us something really special. We weren't disappointed!  1973's The Pyx is a delightful little Canadian oddity. The first bilingual genre film in Canada, this mis-marketed exploitation movie was briefly called The Hooker Cult Murders, before we're sure the complaints from angry teenagers rolled in.
Strangely classy, dark and brooding, with an innovative time jumping plot, you won't want to miss darkly troubled Christopher Plummer,  Karen Black KILLING IT, and some really great religious cult imagery.
What's a Pyx? You're going to have to watch to find out. Which you can do on Youtube.
This week's end credit music is Karen Black and Harry Freedman performing the Song of Solomon from the Pyx Soundtrack.

  • 99: Making Genre Pictures in Canada: with RKSS and Jameson Parker
In our run up to our 100th episode, Becky introduces a new component to the show called, RCMPodcast: Independent Investigations. This series will take a deeper look at filmmakers and their movies, both Canadians and other nationalities working in Canada.
Fesh off their time at Sundance, Becky chats with the filmmakers RKSS and the producer Jameson Parker about their whole career to date, including their new film Summer of '84.
Chronologically discussing their whole filmmaking careers to date, we chat about genre filmmaking in Quebec and finding a place in English-speaking Canada, the glory of Godfrey Ho, their time at Sundance, dressing a Canadian city as 80's period America, and their unique directorial style.
For our filmmaking listeners, producer Jameson Parker fills you in on what producers are looking for in their projects and how to catch their attention.
This week's end credit music is composed by Le Matos.
Check out Summer of '84 in theatres starting August 10th 2018, and on VOD/iTunes ever after.

  • 98: Red Green's Duct Tape Forever (2005) with Rach Shelkey
Whooo boy. Of all the movies we thought we'd cover we didn't think we'd get to The Red Green Movie: Duct Tape Forever from 2002. We were charmed by this low-budget comedy, as well as by the podcaster and gamer who brought it to us,  Rach Shelkey. Rach does a great job explaining the appeal of this ridiculously long-running TV series based film, and we explore the role of women in the Red Green world, the redemption of Harold, the approaches to adapting a show to the big screen, and the impressive technological savvy of Steve Smith.
We had a tough time finding this one, but your local library probably has a copy, or you can check it out on DVD.
This week's end credit music is Strauss' The Blue Danube. Because it's public domain for the win!

How do you make the story of the godfather of cinema interesting? Add naked people and murder of course! This week, we're joined by actor and producer David Kaye as we explore the appropriately visually stunning Eadweard from 2015. This 2016 Canadian Screen Award Nominee is Canadian to the core, shot in Vancouver and full of local actors. Eadweard is available on iTunes.
This week's end credit music is When we were young  by Anna Atkinson.

  • 96: Buster Keaton Rides Again! and The Railrodder (1965) with Will Sloan
Want to see a film that offers a glimpse inside how an old-school comedy genius works? How about a retrospective of the life and times of one of the most brilliant performers ever to grace Hollywood? And if it threw in some stills of a child smoking a cigar? Look no further! Brought to us by podcaster Will Sloan, of the Important Cinema Club and Michael and Us podcasts, we're looking at two films from 1965, The NFB's The Railrodder & Buster Keaton Rides Again. Both films are available from the NFB and are therefore posted in full on our website: rcmpodcast.com.
Even if you don't know much about Keaton, you'll want to check out these heartwarming, illuminating and hilarious companions.
This week's end credit music is from the score of The Railrodder

  • 95: De Père en Flic (Father and Guns) (2009) with Becky and Cam!
This week, Becky and Cam are alone in the new studio sans guest! Becky and Cam are moving and totally admit to slacking on the guest getting, but we have't slacked on our coverage of this high grossing Quebecois comedy. We talk abou the nuances of the culture we wish we knew more about, our dream American cast version (It's been optioned), and the fascinating handling of serious subjects in a comedy. Come for the intergenerational drama, but stay for the scary bikers with Yorkies.
Father and Guns is available on Netflix in Canada.
This week's end credit music is Junkie de Toi by Anik Jean off the album Le Trashy Saloon. It's so good.

  • 94: The Wrong Guy (1997) with Kyle Bottom
Humor is subjective. We get that. But that this little gem of a Canadian comedy fell through the cracks is a national tragedy. Fresh off the debut of the release of his first comedy album, Dugeon Master, Kyle Bottom brings us the 1997’s wacky comedy treat The Wrong Guy. Featuring Dave Foley, Colm Feore, David Anthony Higgins, Joe Flaherty, a brilliant Jennifer Tilley, and a fun cameo by the Barenaked Ladies. Written by a Kid in the Hall, a former Simpsons writer and a sitcom character actor directed by a legend in the comedy world David Steinberg, this direct to video release has finally found a rightful cult status. With gag-a-minute moments, absurd plotlines and a genuinely scary villain, this perfect example of how comedy should be, is more than worth your undivided attention.
