Old Sacramento is making big changes after last weekend’s mass stabbing. Beginning this weekend, vehicle access will be restricted after 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights as city leaders work to improve safety along the waterfront.

Child Molester Sentenced to 500 Years to Life

A Sacramento County judge sentenced 47-year-old Troy Taylor to 500 years to life in prison after his conviction on 10 counts of forcible lewd acts involving three girls between the ages of 4 and 9. Prosecutors said the abuse occurred repeatedly between 2020 and 2023. Taylor also had a prior child molestation conviction from 2002.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office noted that under California’s Elder Parole law, Taylor could become eligible for a parole hearing after serving approximately 23½ years if he meets the statutory requirements.

Second Arrest Made in Old Sacramento Stabbing

Sacramento Police have arrested a second suspect in Saturday’s stabbing that injured five people in Old Sacramento.

Nineteen-year-old Robert Richwine of Rancho Cordova was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Eighteen-year-old Ezekiel Griffis had already been arrested in the case. Richwine’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 3.

• A suspect was arrested after allegedly threatening another person with a knife during a fight on Shadow Tree Drive.

• During a traffic stop near Los Robles Boulevard and Marysville Boulevard, officers arrested a convicted felon found in possession of an illegally possessed handgun.

Protect Your EBT Benefits and Avoid ATM Fees

Sacramento County is reminding EBT users that they can avoid unnecessary ATM fees by using surcharge-free ATMs, requesting cash back during purchases, and limiting ATM withdrawals.

Officials are also warning about an increase in EBT skimming and scam attempts. If you believe your benefits have been stolen, immediately call the number on the back of your EBT card to freeze it and report the theft to Sacramento County.

If you’re still using an older magnetic-stripe EBT card, you’ll need a chip-enabled replacement card to continue accessing benefits.
